WTP 2015 @MIT

HI! Didn't see a thread for WTP (women's technology program) 2015 so I decided to make one :) is anyone else applying? If any alumni see this, how was your experience?
I really really want to go this program, but it's so difficult :( I'll try my best though!

Hi @DhaBoringMe‌! I was accepted in 2014, but I ended up interning locally for a few reasons. One of my classmates attended last year and she really loved it. She said she learned a lot and she enjoyed meeting so many other intelligent girls! Let me know if you have any questions about the app! (I totally did my the week before because I hadn’t realized how early the due date was)

@diver556‌ Wow that’s great! Did you have any programming experince that you put on the app? I know that they aren’t looking for any but I feel very underqualified
I don’t have many stem extracurriculars (I just joined amc this year, and I joined another club that tutors in math and science)

Hi! I’m applying to to WTP, too. A senior at my school told me that she absolutely loved it, and it was the best month of her life.

Hi guys! I’m also applying to WTP, for the ME track.

@diver556‌ @effaineffable‌ Do you need really good grades to get in? Mine aren’t the best- I have a B in AP Calc AB.

I’m applying as well. My school doesn’t offer much in the math and science fields, so this will be an amazing opportunity for me if I am accepted. I marked prefer ME because I’m interested in aerospace engineering in the future. Do you know how much “homework” they give during the program?

@jyinsanity‌ The girl I know who got into EECS last year usually has really high grades (straight A student). But I wouldn’t let that discourage you, since it seems to me that grades are only one aspect of the application.

@abbiejlee‌ When I asked about homework, the senior said that it wasn’t too bad, and that there were tutors to help if you needed them. Plus, she said that I would have time to practice my violin and get the homework done, which is great because I couldn’t imagine not playing for four weeks in a row. So I figure that there is a decent amount of homework, but not so much that it takes away the fun of the camp.

@diver556 and anyone who was accepted to WTP: what did you write your essays on? I don’t want to copy you or anything(!), but would just be interested in what sort of stuff caught the admissions committee’s eyes.

@effaineffable‌ Oh okay, thank you!

When is the deadline for part 2? By the end of the day ET on Monday?

Hi! I’m applying too–I’m really nervous because I feel like I don’t have enough STEM related extracurriculars :frowning: or any SATII subject tests. Are these really necessary to get in? I’ve taken a lot of AP classes though…10 so far

Omg just submitted the app
Feels good…but now the waiting :-S
And I feel you @shlobop‌ I don’t have enough either :frowning: I have taken the bio sat but that was pretty bad. 10 APs?! THATS AMAZING

Thanks :confused: i feel like that’s my only strong point though haha
I still have to finish like 2 of the essay questions xD

what are your guys’ stats? ME or EECS?

hi guys! I’m applying here too, I just finished the app. So scared now…

I guess all we have left to do is wait… Did anyone else’s essays all have exactly 300 words? :slight_smile:

Dang good job!
Mine ranged from 281 to 296
So nervous :frowning: I just realized how bad I am at personal statements
Good luck all of you and hope to see you this summer!!

Do you know if the due date was by January 5th in Eastern Time? Because I live with Pacific Time and it didn’t specify at all on the website.

@effaineffable‌
haha, no, mine were from 280 words to 305. You ME or EECS?

@toofless‌ I’m ME, since I already took a computer programming class freshman year.
