WTP VS Carnegie Mellon APEA

Anyone been to either of these? What's the difference in terms of course load, how rewarding it is, the people you meet there, prestige, etc?

I've heard some really great things about WTP, but how does it compare to APEA (the free one)?

CMU decisions aren’t out for diversity yet, right?

@planner03‌ nope, not yet!

I’m just wondering about MIT vs APEA in general, can anyone provide suggestions???

bump!

My D attended WTP and loved it. They are a uniformly strong group of young women, who go on to MIT, HYPS etc. for college. (The program makes no secret of the fact that more than half of the WTP alumna gain acceptance to MIT for college and they are to some extent trying to recruit women to MIT and to engineering.) The workload is pretty heavy; don’t go there if you are expecting a summer of pure fun. There are real classes, with hours of homework every night, and they move quickly. They covered a year of computer programming in three or four weeks. And also expect that you might experience for the first time an atmosphere where you are just trying to keep up. There are some superstar students there, and it’s hard to expect to be the top dog as you may be at your home school. My D made friends that she willl have for life, and that is probably one of the most rewarding things about it. Students come from all over the country (and even some international cities). There is a lot of team work, some free time, and field trips (concerts, lab visits etc.) to develop deep friendships. I don’t know anything about APEA but I doubt it can hold a candle to WTP.
