1. Good engineering

<p>However, realize that most of the schools offering WUE tuition are the less recognized schools in their states.</p>
<p>If you really need cheap, take a look at South Dakota State University.</p>
<p>University of Wyoming offers great engineering because quite a few mining corporations pour money into the program. Even if you don’t get WUE it’s fairly easy to qualify for merit aid bring the total COA down. It’s the only 4 year university in the state, so obviously it’s going to be well regarded within the state of Wyoming. I’m not sure about the music scene though.</p>

<p>I’ve been looking at all these schools as well because most people have told me to run from Univ. Nev. Reno, but we’ll see. Wyoming is looking like the cheapest, 4000 in state and would end up around 6k for wue.</p>

my step dad (he is a small restaurant manager) is not willing to pay any. He’s a cool guy, but he is my step dad and I wouldn’t want to put that kind of pressure on him anyways. So I guess I’m on my own. I’m hoping for a lot of scholarships and financial aid.</p>

Full or near-full rides with engineering in that list include:</p>
<p>Alabama - Huntsville with 3.0 GPA and 34 ACT or 1490 SAT CR+M
Louisiana Tech with 3.0 GPA and 32 ACT or 1400 SAT CR+M
Howard with 3.5 GPA and 32 ACT or 1400 SAT CR+M (but 3.3 or 3.5 college GPA to keep it year to year)
Prairie View A&M with 3.5 GPA and 26 ACT with W or 1760 SAT CR+M+W</p>
<p>Good need-based financial aid is often best found at in-state public universities and well endowed private universities (which tend to be very selective). What is your state of residency? Have you tried the net price calculators at various schools you are considering?</p>

<p>Is that a one time thing? You need to ask her how much she can contribute EACH year.</p>
<p>It looks like you have a 30 ACT composite. </p>
<p>Paying for college will be an issue. Your stepdad’s income along with your mom’s will be used for determining FA. Scholarships get applied to “need” first.</p>
<p>As for “being on your own”…keep in mind that you can’t borrow much. You can only borrow $5500 for your freshman year. </p>
<p>You need to protect yourself by applying to some schools that will give you assured HUGE scholarships for your stats. </p>
<p>As an engineering major, if you apply before Dec 1st, Alabama would give you free tuition PLUS 2500 per year. With a 5500 student loan, some summer earnings, and maybe a contribution from your mom, that would be affordable. Bama’s app is quick and easy…you should apply as a “back up” school. </p>
<p>WUE schools usually will NOT give you both the WUE rate and a scholarship, so most/all WUE schools probably won’t be affordable to you. WUE schools charge 150% of tuition plus room, board and books. Those costs are well beyond a student loan and your mom’s contribution.</p>

<p>With an ACT 30, Bama’s College of Eng’g “bumps” up your scholarship to full tuition…plus 2500 per year.</p>
<p>Students who have a 30-31 ACT or 1330-1390 SAT (math and verbal scores only) and at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA will receive a tuition supplement to bring their University-level scholarship offer up to the value of tuition. In addition, they will receive $2,500 per year for four years.</p>
<p>^^^ must apply by Dec 1…so get your app in NOW!!! And after a couple of days, you’ll get a follow up email so then you can submit the scholarship app. The scholarships are assured but you still have to submit the scholarship app…all apps are quick and easy…no essays.</p>
<p>ASK your mom how much she’ll pay for EACH year. Taking $5k from her savings might only be a “one year only” thing. So ask her!!</p>

Do you guys know of any other schools that will offer full tuition scholarships with my stats? But with more student body diversity? University of Alabama has 1% Asian diversity.</p>

<p>See post #7 and the thread that it links to. However, most of the big automatic scholarships for stats schools are in the south, where “diversity” may not be the same as in the west.</p>
<p>Note that full tuition still leaves you to pay room, board, and misc expenses (about $12,000 per year for Alabama after the full tuition + $2,500 scholarship). A Stafford loan covers some of it; the rest would have to come from your and your mother’s savings and any earnings from work during the school year or summers.</p>
