@MawkishTREX I wouldn’t be surprised at all if some of us got WLed because they don’t think we’d accept the offers because of better schools and such. Keep your head up

Waitlisted!!!
waitlisted… anyone know how likely it is for acceptance from waitlist or how many people have been waitlisted this year?
Does your email say you’ve been accepted or do you have to go to the portal?
From what I’ve read waitlist acceptances vary from 0% to 10% per year, or about 150 out of 3,000. But that’s a REALLY rough estimate because there isn’t much data available.
In the hope that this may help other students: Wash U is known as a school that likes “demonstrated interest”. Lots of top students are waitlisted each year because the admissions folks don’t think they’ll come if they’re admitted.
Most students have several opportunities to demonstrate interest. Visiting is an obvious way to do so. Students who don’t have the money or time to visit can go to presentations at your school and at college fairs, request an interview as soon as they’re available, apply for scholarships, etc. etc.
@mmj133 I was rejected too, with a 2260 SAT, 4.2, 800/780/710 subject tests, most rigorous curriculum… What did I do wrong?
@Frazzled503 Thanks for the info! I’m hoping it will be near the 10% this year.
In my view, the best way to demonstrate interest is to do the work and do those scholarship essays by 1/15. Wash U has a brilliant plan from a US News Ratings perspective. No supplemental essay initially means the whole world applies, which makes them look amazing. Then, they can use the scholarship essays as a barometer of whether any kid is likely to come. So that enables them to do a rough cut on likely matriculants.
Perhaps the sense that a person will not apply may deter an AC from admitting someone. However, I also think it’s important to note that WUSTL is as selective as ever so a bunch of people with perfect stats may get rejected. I think some comments above wondering why a candidate was not accepted suggest “WUSTL was my safety school” vibes. Even if you had a 36/2400 the way admissions are going you can very well be rejected from any school, and accepted at an better/equal school. If this was an ivy situation, people wouldn’t be saying “what went wrong I had a 2400/36?” It’s random to an extent for many people.
