Does anyone know how to send colleges extra info right now? I just received an award from my school that i think can help in my application and I’m not sure how to let the colleges that haven’t sent out decisions know

real world >$500,000, on paper <$90,000

@austie1216 - What does your financial post mean? You were able to “hide” over $400k of income? How is that possible?

@bulet13
Why don’t you send an email to the admissions office notifying them about your award? Or you can call up their office?
Hope that helps!

@Sophie1295
Thank you I guess I will try to send them an email :)

@desie1 my family runs everything through our business. So the business makes a lot of money, but my parents only cut paychecks to themselves for non-business expenses. It’s complicated but it works and is somehow legal

@austie1216 Thanks for the explanation. We are in that terrible situation where we can’t get one penny of financial aid but as our daughter is applying and was already accepted to some schools that don’t give merit (which we agreed to allow her to do) we have to pay the full $60-$65k per year (after tax!) So we’re looking at a quarter of a million dollars!!! Horrible! You’re very lucky to be in your situation! We did try for the WUSTL free tuition scholarship, but she didn’t get it.

For those who want another option at WUSTL, there is a program that finances education over 10 years and where you can lock in prices for 4 years-for my son, I’m paying 6% interest!(and locked in the 2013 prices for 4 years), and there is no prepayment penalty- while it doesn’t lower what you owe, it does allow for payments to be spread out.

@PsychoDad10

Does interest start accruing on the first day or after graduation? Thanks.

Worrytoomuch- unfortunately it does start from the first day.

Reflection
Strengths: Definitely scores. My leadership was pretty good as well, and I think my essay was pretty good, too.
Weaknesses: No defining characteristics (eg: not concert pianist even though I play piano)

Advice to future applicants: Try to visit the college if you can! If not, try to attend some information sessions given by WashU. I feel like that really does help your application because they do record this kind of stuff; with more and more applications every year and a limited number of seats available, I think colleges that don’t have the “Ivy drawing power” take shows of interest very seriously. In terms of scores and activities, I have a very similar profile to many of my peers that were wait-listed. I was the only one that visited the campus and attended an information session, and I got in (not to say that there is a direct relationship, but it definitely helps your case to show interest).

Congrats to everyone that was admitted!

Reflection
Strengths: Strong focus in chemistry, very good essays and subject test scores
Weaknesses: Gpa and rank could have been higher (9th grade)
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My essays, my letters of rec, and my summer classes (organic chem as a high schooler)
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted: Duke, Northwestern, Cornell, NYU (full tuition), Macaulay Honors College, Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education. Wait listed: Yale, Princeton, Amherst College, University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins, University of Chicago, Washu, Rice, Vanderbilt. Rejected: Harvard (deferred EA), Dartmouth
General Comments: Apply to as many schools as possible. Each year, acceptance rates keep going down. As you can tell, had I only applied to 11 schools, there could have been a chance of getting in nowhere. Make sure you work on those essays since everyone starts to look the same with the same stats. Also regardless of where you get in, know that what you do in college counts much more than where you go to college.

I suppose it’s rather late to join the thread but these were really helpful to me while applying so I figure I can return the favor

Reflection
Strengths: Pretty decent portfolio and test scores, possibly also national merit
Weaknesses: Not a lot of leadership, not so good Physics score
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Honestly no idea. I know I’m a good student, but so was everyone else who applied!
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: UT Austin, Texas A&M, Auburn University (accepted); Rice and Cornell (rejected)

General Comments: I applied to the Sam Fox School under Architecture regular decision and submitted a portfolio of sixteen works, varying in medium. Everyone I’ve met (accepted students, current students, faculty) has been very nice and helpful, the campus just felt like home when I visited earlier this month. I just submitted my deposit for next year and couldn’t be more excited. Good luck to everyone applying and congratulations to everyone who’s been accepted!

-Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM

–Reflection
-Strengths: I applied for a scholarship (even though I didn’t get it, I suppose it showed interest)
-Weaknesses: I really don’t have many AP’s… Then again, my school doesn’t offer many until senior year
-Why you think you were accepted: I’m not sure, since it’s so random with Wash U. I think I fit the common description of a Wash U student
-Accepted: Johns Hopkins, Wash U, Vanderbilt, Bowdoin College, Middlebury College, Boston College, Case Western
-Waitlisted: Brown University
-Rejected: Harvard (EA deferred), Yale, Columbia, Duke, Dartmouth, Northwestern
