WUSTL endowments size?

My kid is thinking seriously applying to WUSTL and many other schools? He attends a northeast prep school on full fin aid and has received a $175,000 scholarship for high school for four years.

He received the scholarship documents with application for 2007. How many kids receive these scholarship packages? He is Asian kid.

Do many kids receive these need-based aid or merit based awards?

Since financial aid is very important consideration to us so we want to know about the endowment for WUSTL. Also how is the History/economics/political scince/International relation departments. Thanks for your help.

Thanks

The only question I can really answer is the endowment question - As of 2005, Wash U's endowment was $4,268,415,000 - The 13th largest endowment in the nation. Some of the universities on the list above Wash U have a much larger student population, as well, making Wash U's endowment more effective per student.

Both of my children received the scholarships packages (my D is HS junior now), and they only qualify for merit scholarships. My S didn't fill up the fin aid forms, but he still received a great merit scholarship and he is attending WUSTL next August.

In my experience, WashU offers less money than most Ivy league schools, so if you are considering Ivys, WashU may not be the best finaid packet you receive. On the other hand, they do have some nice meric scholarships

I don't want to be rude, raghavp, but what is your "experience?"

Didn't you just post this on the waitlist thread:

Oh well, I wasn't going to accept their spot anyway so I guess it doesn't matter. Although I would have liked to say I cleaned the house

What does your experience consist of?

WashU has been generous with scholarships with me, and even increased my scholarship upon my request since my EFC has changed.

Has been surpassed or approached by Upenn, Uchicago and Northwestern, which were far behind in 2000.

Their endowment is like 4.3 billion.

Although WUSTL is generous with financial aid, I belive they should establish a need-blind admission policy.

A net operation surplass of over 100m in 2004-2005, they still increased the tuition. Where did the money go?
