WUSTL for Econ

How good is WUSTL for Econ? Whenever people put the "best undergrad for Econ" lists up I never see WUSTL, which I consider strange since the school is so great.

They just hired some superstar profs....you may be able to find a link to the story on the school's website. I think they are really making an effort to improve the department and its standing.

Here is the link to the article in the Student Life (sept 1, 2006): <a href="http://www.studlife.com/media/storage/paper337/news/2006/09/01/News/Economics.Department.Undergoes.Faculty.Overhaul-2254972.shtml?norewrite200609101926&sourcedomain=www.studlife.com%5B/url%5D">http://www.studlife.com/media/storage/paper337/news/2006/09/01/News/Economics.Department.Undergoes.Faculty.Overhaul-2254972.shtml?norewrite200609101926&sourcedomain=www.studlife.com</a></p>

WashU wasn't noted for its economics program, but it will change soon.

yeah I was wonderin b/c I was lookin through the catalog and the professors all sounded very impressive (their PhDs)

actually, a friend of mine just passed up a jefferson scholarship and a harvard acceptance to study econ at wustl. true story.

WashU's economics department is very good and horribly underrated...the econ majors here rave about the undergraduate program. There were a ton of offerings and so many different types of economics you can specialize in as an undergrad, like financial economics, econometrics, micro, macro, international/trade economics, etc. etc. There's even courses on the economics of the law, sports, and health.

Basically, with the overall solid undergrad program and the new hires and improvements they're making to the department (including a new econ building), the econ department is a top 15 program.
