Hi guys!
Feel free to skip the paragraph below straight to my questions in the next one under.
After receiving my RD offers, I have narrowed down my list to the four school you see above- WUSTL (Olin) vs UC Berkeley (Econ@ College of Letters and Science) vs Georgetown (McDonough) vs NYU (Stern)- all of which are wonderful institutions with their own set of advantages. As an international student (Taiwanese passport), I am concerned with my chances of staying in the United States post-graduation. I must double major a STEM degree in order to have a 3 year OPT- effectively an international student post-graduation working VISA. A business or econ degree would only give me a year, which significantly lowers my chance of drawing an long-term working VISA in the lottery draw. With Georgetown’s stricter system, I wouldn’t be able to major across colleges and receive the STEM degree, so that is a major problem (not a concern at the other 3 institutions). My favorite school out of the four is most definitely WashU- however, given WashU’s location at St. Louis, it seems that the career outlook isn’t as great as the other 3. I’ve always been a little worried about being a small fish in a huge pond, and that is my concern with Berkeley. As for Stern, there really isn’t much I can complain about; but being a typical Asian guy, I am still stuck in that mindset of “NYU is not prestigious enough a school.”
Can anyone add some insight regarding Career outlook at WUSTL’s Olin School of Business? Specifically, how likely is it for me to find a job (investment banking/finance-related/accounting) at the large financial cities- New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles? On the other hand, Is it difficult to secure a good job and utilize career resources effectively at Berkeley due to the large body of students? How would you maximize the potential opportunities of an Econ degree (potentially with a double major on Computer Science) at Berkeley? ANYTHING IS GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thank you!
