I got the WUSTL summer scholars thing in the mail and i'm not sure whether or not I'm gonna go, but assuming I do, will that help when it comes to actually trying to get in come senior year???

Well, I don't know if it's going to help or not, but I am applying to that summer program as well as RD to Wash U....who knows? If the program sounds interesting to you, there's no harm in applying, right?

runningmaniac, do you run cc? r u thinking of running for wash u, if u get in?

if you make good with a prof, he/she may be able to write you a recommendation!

I run, but I'm more of a 200-800 runner instead of cross country. I'm not BAD at cross country though; I don't really know Wash U's running program that well, but if they don't have a track training program during the Fall Season, then yeah, I'll be running CC. The 400 is my thing though :)!

Hopefully I'll see you next year on the team ;-P

I attended the High School Summer Scholars program last year. It was amazing! I must admit I was skeptical. I wanted something to do over the summer. The program seemed pretty good. I must say that it was one of the best experiences of my life. The program lets you "try-out" being a college student. That was simply amazing. Living in a dorm with a roommate was a great experience too. I had been extremely afraid of sharing my room with another stranger... yet now I think having a single room at college might be difficult!! The educational value and social value (if that is what you would call it) was awesome. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

emd222, I got lots of questions. :)

What're your stats? GPA/rank, SAT scores, extracurriculars, awards?

also, is prior research experience THAT vital to get into the summer scholars program? i have none, even though i'm very interested in doing research during college.

I think it was safe to say that anyone who applied to the HSSP program for session one last year got in. They even admitted people who applied late. Everyone who was there, however, was very interested in doing well in college. SAT scores ranged from 1200-1600. ACTs were upwards of 27 probably. I am not sure about everyones' awards/ECs... for me-- I am an officer in both MUN and NHS, a head in costumes for the school plays, I've done a ton of community service... basically i"m really involved. I pretty much live at school.

Prior research experience is not vital from what I saw.

It may be for some of the other summer programs WashU has such as the freshman biology program.

What is the HSSP? I haven't heard of it before, nor have I recieved any mail about it (I think. Washu sends a ton of mail.).

Does anybody know about the selectivity of the Summer Scholars Program in Biology and Biomedical Engineering? That's the one I'm considering. Is prior research experience important?

Thanks.

HSSP is the High School Summer Scholars Program. It is for soon to be seniors in high school. Seeing as you're looking into the bio program you would not be eligible for hssp! I heard the bio program is a lot of fun though! :) I don't know much else about it! good luck
