So (sorry, I'm new to all the terminology) a low reach means I have a better chance than a high reach? So I actually have a shot at Amherst? How about Bowdoin? Can anyone suggest some matches?
Thanks!

bump bump bump

UChicago: Reach
Washington in St. Louis: Reach
Vassar: Low Reach
Vanderbilt: High Match/Low Reach
Amherst: Low Reach
Sewanee: Uni. of the South: In
Lake Forest: In
Butler: In

Get that ACT up, and you'll have a better chance at Chicago, WUStL, and Vassar. I don't know about the other schools, but Chicago sometimes recruits students from small schools, so maybe that can work as an advantage for you. Aim for a 32 or higher on the ACT. Anything in the 30/31+ range will give you a decent chance, though.

Can anyone reccomend a few more "match" schools?

I wouldn't consider Amherst a "low reach" for anyone. That's like saying Princeton is a "low reach"- it is the most selective LAC, guys.

And for Vassar- if you're male, you'll have a much greater chance of getting in. They like keeping the male/female ratio as equal as possible and a lot more girls apply, so the % admitted is higher for guys.

Really? I didn't know Vassar was trying to change the ratio; I got the impression they were content with the 60:40.

UChicago has also gotten much harder to get into lately.

Ugh, it just seems like there's so much working against me!

You need a better ACT regardless, and if you bring it up a couple points, you'll be a decent applicant at Vandy.

To answer your previous question, low reach means it is easier to get into than a high reach. As for Bowdoin, it is quite competitive, and without 30+ ACT your chances aren't great.
