Hi everyone,
I'm interested in majoring in electrical/computer engineering and I was curious as to which of these two schools would be the better choice academically. I know WUSTL is more prestigious, but is it a big gap? I know that WashU's former president is now at Rochester...
Rochester gave me a $22,000/yr merit scholarship, and I didn't apply for aid to either. Money is not a huge issue, but savings would be nice. I visited Rochester and really liked it, and I'm visiting WashU in a couple of weeks.
I would probably want to go to grad school and get an MBA or something similar afterwards; I'm not sure I want to be a hardcore engineer, but I would like to work in the tech field. Would WashU's prestige be more helpful for what I have in mind?

Thanks for any replies.

Are you referring to Washington University of St Louis?

University of Rochester or Rochester Institute of Technology.

You will get a better sense of the two schools once you visit.

Check to see if the $22,000 is a one time grant, or is it an annual award. Keep in mind, when calculating total cost, that most people take 5 years to finish engineering school.

Yes, Washington University in St. Louis and the University of Rochester. The $22,000 is annually renewable.

Also, I was under the impression that you could finish engineering school in four years…

got to university of rochester. Thats a whole lot of money to save over 4 years ($88,000)

wash u st louis is one of the most overated, ranking-thirsty universities out there

Really? I knew Wash U was ranking-thirsty, but I always thought they were underrated… I get the impression that quality of life at Wash U is better than at UR, but I wish I knew if my job opportunities will be relatively the same or quite different. Neither are near NYC, LA, or Chicago, so it’s hard to judge.

The University Of Rochester has a very low engineering ranking in the US News engineering rankings. It’s ranked the same as schools such as Kansas State, Michigan Tech

Go to WUSTL

Well quality of life is really WashU’s selling point.

Understood, but is their engineering program going to get me a good job/into a good grad school? (My gut instinct is yes).

well no, engineering is a whole different field, a school like Purdue or Georgia Tech is more reputable than a school like Rochester or Yale for engineering. Rochester should get you a good job but WUSTL will give you more and better options for careers. Plus, I agree, quality of life is better at WashU
