WUSTL VS Umich VS Grinnell VS Macalaster VS NYU

What are your post-graduate plans? Personally I would mark off WashU, NYU, and UMich simply because there is a massive difference in the price and Grinnell/Macalester are comparable to all of those schools. Of those on your list, the one that really stands out as "not worth the money compared to the others" is NYU, followed by UMich. Both don't seem to have what you want: a more personal environment. However, realize that if you end up studying in their business schools (Stern/Ross) you will essentially be part of a smaller college within the university. If you can get past the cornfields, Grinnell is a very personal, excellent college. Macalester is also nice - a rising star of sorts - that is located in a very cool (both literally and figuratively) part of the country.

You've also given two scenarios: business or bio.

Of your choices, WashU is probably best for bio, but it is also notoriously hard! For business, your best bet is either NYU or Michigan. The two LACs don't do business and WashU's business program isn't necessarily "top tier."

I am not sure what you are asking for George. For Biology, Washington University is the best on your list, closely followed by Michigan. For Business, Michigan/Ross is best, closely followed by NYU/Stern. But as Brand_182 points out, you want personalized attention. Grinnell and Macalester are hard to match in that domain and both have solid Biology departments. Nither one of those two schools have a Business pogram though. From an academic interest point of view. I think Michigan and WUSTL are probably your best bet. But from a "fit" point of view, I would say the LACs probably suit you better.

yeah thx both of you!
i may go to Grinnell for its bio dept. and econ dept. but if the bio in macalaster is better than its in grinnell, then i will choose macalaster.I love washU indeed, but its too expensive to me .maybe..

i really dont know how to compare the bio dept. in a U and a LAC...
Is bio really good in Macalaster?
