I'm considering both of these school, and would like opinions. Not sure if it matters, but I would be a varsity athlete (basketball).

Male or female? <a href=“Washington University in St. Louis - Official Athletics Website”>http://bearsports.wustl.edu/

Thanks for the reply! I am a male.

but you probably know that already.

Maybe you need to be a little more specific in your questions (this forum is FULL of all kinds of opinions on all kinds of topics!) Unfortunately I know nothing about Williams so can’t compare.

I would go with Williams. Smaller school, but probably a better education (in a lot of aspects) and a more immersive college experience.

I would go with Williams. Tutorials? Couldn’t ask for more.

WUSTL. Easily. Better place for basketball and academics.

If at all possible, you should visit both, and see which environment you like better.

They are so different you can’t ask or answer a simple either/or question. Each has strengths and weaknesses depending on what exactly you really want.

To me, wustl presents more opportunities (size-without being too big, not in the middle of nowhere location, numbers of classes and majors). But if you’re someone who really wants that small intimate environment and are prepared for it’s potential downsides, then go with Williams. I personally think Wash U and Brown provide the most small-liberal-artsy experience without being a small liberal arts college. Wash U has amazing freshman seminars, small classes, undergrad research opportunities, small freshman floor sizes, and an overall awesome community. Wash U has the best of both worlds I think – that’s what I was looking for in a college (small liberal artsy feel without being uber small, middle of nowhere, etc) and I’ve been 100% satisfied by wash u.

As someone else said though, you definitely have to visit. Spend two or three days in each location and see if you could see yourself there for 4 whole years. Spending just one day is too whirlwind of a tour to get an impression of everyday life.

Both are excellent schools, both have excellent bball programs. The schools themselves are very different as are their locations. You need to visit both and the decision will be easy after that.

Go wustl, Williams is way too tiny.

Totally different schools.
Totally different atmospheres.
Two different college experiences.
You can’t lose.

That being said, Wash U is an absolutely fabulous school, with excellent academics.
I can pay no higher compliment than to say that the academics at Williams, while possibly a bit more limited in offerings, are even better.
