Will that hurt a lot for applying ivies???
I am quite lazy that time, but I have the heaviest curriculum in 11 and 12.

It'll hurt more if you write like that in your essays, that's for sure....

Princeton and Stanford don't count 9th grade. All schools count 10th.

My freshmen grade was horrible really horrible... like GPA 2.x
but my sophomore GPA was 3.x and my junior GPA is 4.6 :O
considering that I get 2200+ SAT I and 700+ on 3 SAT II's do you guys think I have a chance of getting into a good school? ( considering that I have good ECs, good recs, and good essay)

i hae the same problem.
freshman yr i had 4.0
soph 4.4
junoir...i can get a 5.0

5.0? No such thing.

Why do people weight their own grades on here? The colleges are going to look at your UNWEIGHTED grade and put it into their own formula based upon the difficulty of the classes you took

fine fine fine...my school does weighted...so i don't know
4.0???

If you have really bad 9th and 10th grade scores you should be glad when you get into a good college which is entirely possible. But ivy? No way.

bad as in 2.x
or as in 4.0-4.4

I just immigranted to Canada when I was in 9th grade, so some courses' marks aren't great (eng, social studies etc) ...10th grade is better..

gr11 is completely different, GPA skyrocketted...

will that hurt my chances of getting into ivies??? should i attach a letter explaining all this???

It's hard enough getting into ivies with perfect grades, of course it will hurt you.

I meant bad as in 2. or 3. though. If you had As and Bs the whole time but it got better as time went on, you're in good shape.

if you got a 2.x gpa 9th and 10th grade, you have no shot at ivy's unless you have a superb explanation.

well I had 2.x on 9th grade and 3.x on 10th grade......... My current GPA weighted is I think 4.6 ......... I don't expect to go to any IVY but considering that I have a good SAT I, II scores and good essay / recs.... Can I get into schools like Duke, Northwestern, U of Michigan, NYU?

Shaina did u mean "entirely possible" or "entire impossible"

2.x weighted means you didn't try your ass off. And that is the only way you can get into an IVY

I meant what I said.

first off, just apply, because you never know. write an awesome essay and get awesome reccs

i'd say

duke-no
northwestern-no
u michigan-yes you have a chance
nyu-chance/reach

how did you get a 2. something
i did nothing my freshman year except play violin 8 hours a day no joke and i had a 4.0 weighted

^ cake classes and/or grade inflation

I had a 3.3 GPA my freshman year which was bad considering I'd have a 3.75 now if freshman year wasn't counted, as it is my GPA is 3.6ish. (Fortunatly my Alternative program means I don't actully have a GPA so maybe it won't matter as much, these numbers I've calculated on my own).
