hey my classes werethe hardest i could have taken

you really dont have any chance for Ivy's ..WHY you ask? lets face it...thousands of valedictorians apply to IVY's and they have perfect stats throughout high school. HOwever...if your GPA was low for only FRESHMAN...it will have little or no effect on your admissions. Freshman doesnt even affect Stanford, UC's, and princeton's chances

Btw...how To Convert A Gpa Of 82% Into Scaled Gpa ???

hey i took the hardest classes i could have freshamn year
mainly i did extremely well on tests because i listened during clas...duh
an i just had a 0 in homework...worth usually only 20%

What if the grades from sophomore are high D/low C range, then goto straight Bs and As junior year, and the college app. sees the senior classes being the hardest?

rob, what school are you applying to?

Im assuming the GPAs you posted are wieghted.

Although Princenton and some other colleges dont consider your freshman year, alot and actually more colleges do.

Assuming they do - Ivys will definently be hard for you, but if you can explain it WELL then youll have a better chance (which means a chance not a good chance)

Assuming they dont look at 9th you still have a 3.X during 10th and when weighted that is not good in terms of IVY material. Remember people applying to these schools have 4.9 or something ridiculous on the weighted scales and are generally perfect. Which means youll need a good explanation, a damn good one. You improved and thats a plus.

Assuming you get very good SAT scores and I mean good as in 750 or above youll have a chance. Remember this is the order of admissions processes if your just an average joe (some applicants get "special" treatment for donation etc digusting as it is)

1) Formula based calculation of your grades, sat, AP, flags (like legacy)
----Screen--- ( if you have a good end score youll pass this first screen )
2) Essay
----Screen---
2) Interview (some Ivys will give you an Interview even if your essay sucks, but those are reserved for people who are in "bad" situations and are given a chance to explain themselves (bad as in poverty etc and not just because of slacking off) or genuises who Ivy's expect great things from even if they arent the best socially for example.
----Screen---
3) For those on the borderline they might give you another chance to interview, but these are not common due to the incredible amount and quality of applicants applying to Ivys

Thats about it.

At this point the most important thing you should be worrying about if you want a shot at the Ivys are your SAT scores AND your ESSAY. If you write a mediocre essay and still have perfect scores youll be dropped quite easily unless your a genuis. AND THE LAST THING - Better prepare a damn good explanation of bad grades in 9 10 grades. Improvement wont simply just give you the keys to Ivys. WOrk hard and youll get in, if not its no the end of the world - graduate school is far more important.

Good Luck

I'm going to throw an early decision at Yale and University of Chicago just to see what happens, other then that mostly state schools and a few others

Going To Ed Cornell....the 82% Gpa In My Gr10 Is Unweighted....i Only Take One Hon Course Though......

Will The Reason " First Year In Canada" Be A GOOD EXPLAINATION TO THE BAD GRADE AT GRADE 9???

well what about instead of IVY other schools that are good like.... Duke... Northwestern.... JHU... Boston College..... NYU etc etc..?
