Hello - are there any WVU nursing students, potential students or parents that can tell us anything about their nursing program? The housing? The safety or Morgantown? Thank you for any information you can share with us.

I can’t speak specifically to the nursing program since my daughter did not go through it; however, her friend did. She graduated this past May and is working at the local hospital now (and still rooming with my DD). I have had several of my local doctors here in the DC area tell me that they think WVU has a great medical school and nursing program.

My daughter has been in Morgantown for 4 years and she absolutely loves it there. We come from a very congested area outside of DC and she really enjoys the walkability and the “small town” feel. Morgantown has been quite updated since 4 years ago when she started. I was just there on Monday helping her move and I was impressed by all the changes. Safety has never been an issue for her but she would never walk alone at night–that’s just asking for trouble, but she’s always been fine in groups.

Thank you, ChrisVA1 - I really appreciate all the information. D really liked the college and the nursing program. We were in Morgantown late one night, and the next day for the college tour and a meeting with a nurse advisor. We drove around as much as we had time for but didn’t see a lot of Morgantown so thank you for the information about safety.

Did you daughter and her nursing room mate live on campus for all 4 years? We didn’t see an actual dorm room - a mock room was set up in one of the buildings.

My DD lived off campus after the first year as did most people she knows. WVU doesn’t have a lot of room for upper classman and it’s somewhat difficult to stay on campus, although people do it.

The nice thing is that there are TONS of off-campus housing in all price ranges. My DD prefers the downtown scene because she does not like driving to campus. She has lived in the older homes and managed to walk to campus each year.

My cousin’s son stayed farther out (cheaper rent and newer, nicer apartments) but he had to take the local bus in. He also drove and parked at the Colliseum and then took the PRT wherever he needed to be.

The mock dorm room was in the lobby of the building my DD first lived in “Brooke Tower”. The towers were fairly nice, albeit “gloomy” inside. The have AC and it appears, each year, they get new carpet. The bathrooms are maintained well by the maintenance staff who are very friendly.

Since all my DD’s classes were downtown (as most freshman classes are) she did switch during the spring semester to a downtown dorm and really preferred that but there was no AC and it was definitely very old.

The rooms, to be, all seemed good sized.

Sorry for my late reply! Thank you again for the information. I am hoping we can go back on a day when it isn’t raining and do another walking tour, but this time a self-guided one. I think D has all her information into WVU, except she is re-takiing the SAT and taking the ACT and some subject tests. Do you happen to remember if your daughter had an admissions interview?

Again, thank you for your help!
