WVU, Wisconsin, Indiana, Umass Amherst

Hey, I'm new to the forum, I have some questions...

I'm thinking of applying to all of these four schools, but I can't really decide where I would want to go if I get into all of them.

What's the weather like at Wisconsin? Is it super cold? How much partying goes on there also? Is it a hard school to do well in?

I hear the partying at WVU is really good, does anyone go there or seen their parties and nightlife? Also, how is it academically? Is it known as a joke school? I heard there's very strict policies on alcohol on campus.

How are Indiana and Umass known academically? Are they known as good schools? If I go to Indiana I'm going to go and then apply to the kelley school of business.

Any other comments about these colleges would be appreciated...Thanks

In terms of academics:
UW
IU
UMass
WVU

Overall I would also pick the schools in this order. UW and IU are no slouches socially.

Yeah I mean Wisconsin is my number one, but hows the greek life at all these schools? and while IU may not be a slouch socially, is WVU really insane? what is it like? I keep hearing crazy things

UMass is a HUGE party school. I don't know much about their academics (aside from them having the best linguistics program in the country, after MIT), but their campus is kind of gross.

Also, I don't know if this is what you're doing, but don't pick a school based on how good the parties are. College is expensive, and if you're just going to party, it's a huge waste of your money.

Personally, I'd choose (in this order:)
*Wisconsin-great academics; fun, cool town
*UMass-very good academics (if you don't sleep or drink through them;) fun, cool town... cross-registration at amherst, smith, etc.
*IU-very good academics; pretty campus.
*WVU-admittedly, I don't know much about this place.

I would pick IU over all the others since you are talking about business. Kelley is way above the others (yes, even Wisconsin in my opinion).

IU is a fun college in a great college town. Kelley is tops. Look no further.

All these are equally fun. I would pick UW in a nanosecond over all the others.

I already applied to both Indiana and UMass-Amherst this year. Indiana is my 2nd choice and UMass is my safety. I like both of them, but I really like Indiana alot. Wisconsin is a school I would def. apply to, but unfortunately, I dont have the grades.

At my Publid school in central mass only about a 1/2 an hour away from Amherst we have an affectionate name for our states flagship state school Zoomass! Its academics are solid, but the campus is huge and a big party school. The town is very nice though and a nice college town.

While Wisc has the most robust graduate programs overall (and has a faculty that is somewhat dogmatically liberal), on the undergraduate level they are all large state universities that provide the resources to obtain an excellent education if that is what you are seeking. I would not make a general statement that any is superior to the others. The reputation of the graduate business programs has very little relationship to the preparation of undergrads for success in business. John Chambers, CEO of Cisco Systems, is a WVU grad, as is Ray Lane, formerly President of Oracle and now a partner at Kleiner Perkins.

A fall weekend in Madison--hard to beat.
