My daughter is interested in attending a Catholic university and perhaps swimming for that university. Depending upon the route we take on a spring trip, we will not be able to visit both Xavier University in Cincinnati and St. Louis University. Has anyone been to both universities? If so which made the best impression on you and why? (She is still undecided regarding a major.)

I’m a Xavier grad and my son recently applied and received a fantastic merit scholarship there. He also received one from SLU. Both are great schools. Both are Jesuit but have some significant differences. X is much smaller. SLU has engineering and a medical school. Both are worth a visit.

Are you looking for any other options? We have a Xavier in New Orleans as well if she’s interested (as well as one of a few Loyola’s, also Jesuit).

Visited Xavier (Cincy)…small and very urban. DD didn’t get the “vibe from it” that we were hoping for. Not in a great neighborhood if I recall correctly. Considered John Carroll in Cleveland if you like the Jesuits?

Thanks Bearlolx, Kypdurron, CinMom, Scutrules and casey1.

Daugter is also interesting in swimming in a not-so-elite Divsion 1 university, so that’s why Xavier and St. Louis popped up on our radars. Ideally she’s like to be at a Catholic school with good academics, beautiful and safe campus, and where she can make the swim team and get some scholarhsip help. We live in MN and will be driving south to Florida through Indianapolis in early April to visit schools, so we figured we might stop by either, Xavier or St Louis. Open to other suggestions, even if the school is not necessarily Catholic.
