Is anyone on the XC team @ Grinnell??? I'm a runner in hs, and I think I want to continue running in college. I'v heard that sports aren't exactly all the rage at Grinnell :), but if anyone does know about XC, that'd be great!!

My daughter has played two sports at Grinnell - and her roommate is a runner on xc team. I think it's a decent size team. Also, I think about 30-40% of students play sports. I bet if you emailed the coach he would get you the names of some students to email about it.

Thanks, snorky!

I run xc and will probably be running at Grinnell next year... contact coach Freeman...

I visited Grinnell last month and there was an article in the college newspaper by a current student. She was telling about how when she was a prospie on a campus visit she was walking along the railroad tracks through campus with her mom and the men's XC running team ran by naked! I guess that naked running is some kind of tradition there because now she has done it too. Does that scare you away or make you more interested?

The Crosscountry team definitely streaks through the campus and the dorms. They like to do it when they know that a ton of prospies are in. It's amazing really.

When I was up there, I was talking to a guy on XC and he said that he wish he'd known we'd be there sooner or they would have organized a special streakfilled welcome for us!

i run xc at grinnell and the team is pretty awesome. did you already visit? you should e-mail coach freeman (freemanw@grinnell.edu) and let him know you're interested, he'll set you up with a visitation or get you in touch with some of the current runners.

The XC teams are very, very good. Both the men's and women's teams won the conference championship this past season.

Sports are more popular on campus than many would have you believe. A lot of people participate, and Grinnell is currently atop the standings for the Midwest Conference all-sports standings for female sports and 4th for male sports. If I recall correctly, they finished #1 and #2 last year in the all-sports standings.

Grinnell has had six total conference championships so far this season (both XC teams, both swim teams, women's tennis and women's soccer). The next closest school is Monmouth with three.

Don't buy all of the counter-culture crap you hear. Sure, that's here, but so are athletes.
