bah can't edit? well i guess the CR method was never released lol

Here is a summary of the xiggi method, sorry, no CR advice except for books that he recommends:

entomom I read your guide and I just have some concerns. I find the hardest part is coming up with examples. Usually it takes me a while to take of 3 or at least 2 concrete examples before I can figure out which side of the assignment I want to take. With the time wasted to think of examples I wind up having to rush through it instead of elegantly writing it. While I'm not saying I can write a college A paper in 25 minutes, at least something that's worthy of a first draft and not a semi-outline would be nice. Do you have any suggestions or key books that you always look for , in terms of examples? Many people and I tend to like Harry Potter but that seems a little childish, says my tutor, your opinions and do you know any trends of examples from sources?

I read this thread and it seems helpful: <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-act-tests-test-preparation/440742-literature-historical-examples-sat-essay.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-act-tests-test-preparation/440742-literature-historical-examples-sat-essay.html</a></p>

Sorry, I don't have too much to suggest beyond the types of examples cited in the link you gave. I'd have to agree that HP is a little lacking in intellectual content for a SAT essay. I know that my D took examples from a few books she used in HS, one was Jonathan Kozol's Death at an Early Age. I think anything you've read recently in school or on your own and can pull arguments or examples from is good.

What's it mean by open books and closed books? Does it mean we can and can't view the answers during the practice test?

Whew, just finished reading this huge thread. Took me 3 hours, but it was worth it, the Xiggi method is awesome and works well for me.

@iverson

I think the open book means you work without time limits just trying to answer the questions. I dont think you are supposed to look at the answers

To anyone who can help:

I gave the Jan 2009 SAT and got 2120 - CR 750 M 680 W 690. I want to retake it in May with a target score of 2300+. Is that realistic if I am hitting above 720 in the Blue Book practice tests?

is there any summery containing all the tips xiggi tells about WR ?

Someone went through all the threads and created this:

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/68210-xiggi-s-sat-prep-advice-39.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/68210-xiggi-s-sat-prep-advice-39.html</a></p>

Hello everyone, It is my first post. I am actually a parent and I am looking to prep my daughter for SAT. Does anyone knows a good tutor in New York City area or within a reasonable distance? I would appreciate any referrals.

Mark…

Coming back to read this later…

@Xiggi: “Several websites –and some tutoring companies- offer a service that sends out a number of words on a daily basis. Since it would take only a few minutes to open the emails or log in at the website, it is a good idea to start subscribe to a few of them. This is the kind of repetition that helps you prepare without really “feeling” it.”

Could you list some of these websites you were talking about?

Most online dictionaries (like M & W) have “word of the days”…

I love you guys…

hey i scored a 2250 on my last sat
is it possible to score 2350 plus by next fall?
also, my little brother (9th grade) scored a 1900 on his sat- do you think he’ll top my score by the time he’s a junior

great i’ll read this later. sound’s useful but really…have to be patient

hmm sounds interesting. Might look into this, but can someone explain who this “xiggi” person is and why people request his sat method?

hehe sorrry if I should have known…i kinda feel bad for not knowing who xiggi is.
