Dear xjayz,

I have dreamed of Harvard for such a long time. Could you share what you did to reverse your deferral? And how did you manage to handle the deferral?

Thanks.

Mmm...you might want to send a letter expressing continued interest and saying you'll definitely go if accepted (assuming this is the case with you! If you want to leave your options open--that is, if you wouldn't have applied under a binding ED program--don't do this!! If you want open options, though, you may still want to send a letter saying you're still interested). It's been said--and I'm not sure how true this is but whatever--that a school that deferred you might otherwise think you'll hold a grudge against them and not want to go if you get in regular.

Other than that I really don't think there's much you can do. Your midyear grades are already in so you can't really boost your academic performance anymore. Applications for the few big awards that are given out this time of year are all pretty much done, but remember that of the 2700 or so students who get deferred, 100-200 get in and most of them don't really do much between December and April, so anything you do to make yourself stand out can't hurt, right? Good luck!

GuitarManARS is correct. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the internet, I am not going to discuss any specifics. However, as NSM said before, if you have a deferral from Harvard, look at it as a rejection don't cling on it for hope. I definitely sent my update letters. This is what I did, and I was pleasantly surprised in April.

Brit, are you British or Britneyish??? OR rather both?

Hmmmm...they will think that they will hold a grudge against them. That is excellent because I wrote a letter thanking them for deferring me and giving me another chance to improve my SAT and national awards!! I also sent a letter of recommendation showing just how determined I am to get it....it was AWESOME! Seriously, if I get in....my recs are the reason!

APFreak, I'm pulling for you, man :) Good luck tomorrow.

British and Britneyish. Are we what we are or whom we believe we are? A question whose answer is still a question.
