Alright, so I just got a letter inviting me to go to Y Weekend, only problem is I know very little about it (aside from what’s in the letter). For those who have gone, would you recommend it? It’s a little worrying to me that you have to miss two days of school (which at my school is equivalent to 3-4 days of school due to a 4x4 schedule). Also, I will have to miss my cross country race that weekend, which is relatively important. So in short, I’m asking if the experience is really worth it; considering my circumstances and the fact that I’ve already visited campus, seen the dorms, gone to a student ward, etc.

Also-I’ve heard rumors that an invitation to Y Weekend is an unofficial letter of acceptance. Any truth to that? Does going to Y Weekend increase your chances (I know the letter says it doesn’t)? Would not going actually hurt you?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

You won't be hurt by not going, but I've heard that they invite you if you have a good chance of getting a scholarship. I'm not exactly sure what they do, but it's not really important. I don't think it is worth missing school and a cross country meet for. However, if you do choose to go to BYU, then I would recommend going to Late Summer Honors before classes start. I've heard from several people that it is a fun experience.

Cool-thanks for the reply.

I went to Y weekend in 2005 and it was completely worth it. It confirmed my decision to go there and it was very informative and lots of fun. ALl of the people there were super nice and fun to be with. I was definitely worth the missed school (I can relate), but make sure you go on a weekend where lots is going on, like a football game, especially the against the U or the homecoming game. And no, it is not technically a letter of acceptance, but keep in mind that the only students that they invite to Y weekend are the ones they are planning on giving scholarships (look at the freshman matrix). Anyway...it was very helpful and entirely worth it.
