YACT (Yet Another Chance Thread *international*)

<p>Hi everyone,</p>

<p>I'm an international living in Sydney, Australia. I'm interested in studying Biomedical Engineering at an American college.</p>

<p>My stats are-</p>

<p>SAT-
M:750 CR:770 W:780</p>

<p>SAT II -
Math IIC: 800
Biology M: 800</p>

<p>GPA - No equivalent in Australia.
School estimate for UAI (percentile ranking for state) is 99.00 , but this will not be available in time for BU Trustee or USC Merit scholarships.
Raw Midyear scores are considerable lower, something like 100, 95, 96, 95, 82, 68, 58, 57.
Final HSC Marks will be higher, all 90+</p>

<p>Any advice on reporting these will be appreciated</p>

Da Vinci Decathlon, Team Leader - Winner
UNSW National Mathematics Competition - High Distinction

UNSW Sustainable Living Challenge - National Finalist
PwC Australian Economics Competition - High Distinction
NSW Titration Competition - Finalist, Certificate of Merit
Robocup Robotics Competition - State Finalist</p>

<p>Community Service:
-Bowden Brae Retirement Village 100 hours
-Schools-for-Schools Program: proposed by myself and set up with fellow student council members, this program goes to local primary schools, helping the transition from primary to high school by giving advice and creating friendships early on in the transition process.</p>

<p>Recommendations -
2 great teachers, great counselor, will be great</p>

<p>Essay -
Yet to write, but I think they will be above average at worst and superb at best.</p>

<p>your choice of school is different.. i mean if you are going into BME... i think you should aim for Johns Hopkins and Duke, the two best in America.</p>

<p>UCB and MIT are pretty good at BME too...</p>

<p>well, i've chosen schools i believe would be a fit for me, based on the culture, location, education etc.</p>

<p>Financial aid needed?</p>

<p>At BU, USC, UCLA and UCB, which don't provide need based aid to internationals, im applying to scholarships and merit aid available.</p>

<p>MIT and Yale are need blind for internationals, and yes i'm applying.</p>

<p>Stanford is the only school which is need aware and provides need based aid to internationals, and yes I am applying for fin aid there.</p>
