^There are VERY few applicants who could be that strong as to consider ivy leagues as their “safety” schools. and even if they were that strong, I think it’s arrogant to say so. no one really knows how difficult admissions are until they have been accepted/rejected themselves

Haha ya stupefy is spot on. I dont care who you are, Columbia will never be your safety school

Sorry to double-post this but - quick question:

Did Yale request the first Q grades from any of you or did any of you self-report them anyway? Does anyone know what the consensus/particular behavior of Yale is on the matter of 1st quarter grades for SCEA decisions?

@ZishuAW, Stupefy, and Rtgrove123 - I said that’s what the Harvard guy SAID, not that I agree with him (I obviously don’t - that’s a little ridiculous, although I do personally think I have great chances of admission at Cornell [still not “safe”]). The point was that at least it’s a good sign, considering the fact that my SATs aren’t too amazing compared to everyone else here. And yes, Harvard guys can be VERY haughty :), even though I do not believe that he purposefully said this in a derogatory manner to elevate Harvard. Oh, and Rtgrove123, I know this is not what you meant, but there will be applicants that can call Columbia their safety school; at the moment, Obama’s children come to mind

hehe nicely played dan92 hehe

k ummm oops accident

Can someone make the official SCEA decisions thread? Hopefully there will be a handful of QuestBridge students who will need to use it tonight :-)

wait so your SAT scores “aren’t too strong” yet you have “great chance” of getting into cornell? this makes no sense to me. it isn’t THAT much more difficult to get into HYP than the other ivies. many of the people here who are applying to yale can’t be too confident to get into, say, penn, columbia, or cornell either. and I know many people who have gotten into yale, but rejected from penn/columbia.

^one of my best friends who graduated last year got rejected from upenn wharton ED, but accepted into yale and princeton

Wharton is special. Having said that, UPenn is really competitive overall–not much less than Yale.
And I am behind Dan actually…I think it has been said again and again that SAT scores do not automatically set people apart (Or else I would be happy dancing because I have a perfect score. And every college will want me definitely! Yeah! NOT AT ALL.) And although personally not a huge fan of Harvard, it takes something amazing to make a Harvard interviewer say that so Dan I believe you stand out as a strong applicant. I know you didn’t think that way~:)
And Obama’s children are a different situation so…yeah maybe Columbia safety. I don’t know.
I had my interview yesterday which was GREAT FUN. I don’t know how my evaluation report will be though. Yeah, maybe we should have a results thread now.

So, so, so nervous!!! Aaah… Reading the QB thread is just making me more anxious. Two weeks. :

Obviously there’s a discrepancy in the scales, depending on your test date and which questions you got wrong, I expect. That makes me wonder who much stock colleges put into the differences between scores of 2300ish to 2390.

I just checked the QB thread… Congratulations, applicannot, on getting into Stanford!!! You rock!!!

Yeah, exactly, SAT scores seem pretty arbitrary within a range…
The first time I took it (Jan. '09), I think I got 5 questions wrong, and got a 2250. The second time (May '09), I got 2-3 questions wrong, and got a 2400. So apparently 2 questions is a 150 point difference in my case (and I got a perfect score without getting everything right…).

Good luck at Stanford!

wheres the QB thread?

^College Admissions forum. It’s moving at the speed of light!

The QB thread is still hopping, too. Thanks guys. I won’t see you at Yale, but there’s certainly no loss in getting into Stanford.
