Yale 2014 Hopefuls

Hahaha, yeah, at my school, some of the foreign language teachers are ridiculous. There are those that only speak two though.

Prussia! It’s nice to see you out and about on CC. I thought you were never going to post in the same forum as me ever again! I’m not a fan of Spanish food actually. It makes my stomach hurt.

What?! You don’t like spicy food?! Or just Spanish food? Because if its spicy, I’ll have to be ostracizing all up on you, bro. I’m the girl who orders the spiciest wing level–where you have to sign a waiver–because I love the spicy. I also eat red curry at the spiciest level orderable. I eat pickled jalapenos straight from the can. I always eat the spicy. I am a spicy fiend.
Yum yum yum.

…Right. Sorry for that.
Anyway, cool to see you around, too! I’ve been meandering throughout the CC forums of colleges I’ve applied to, but none seem very active. On relative terms, this one is more so. So, I don’t mind hanging around here. Yale is pretty cool, after all.

like me Dx I hate having allergies lol

I think french, italian, and japanese are the most elegant languages. I’m done with french and would love to start italian/japanese asap :]
I’ve never really liked Spanish. I have no idea why…either way, I’ve somehow been able to avoid it my entire life. eh.

^ sorry to randomly crash, but YES japanese is lovely to listen to.
its really easy to learn as well, because there are set rules for everything etc.
but LOL, i agree with rorystar, i swear japanese women have ridiculously high voices… at least, the ones in movies and jdramas do…

Even when I was little I loved the silky-ness of the French language. It’s so wonderful!
I would love to learn Latin. It seems like it would come in so handy. And since my native Indian tongue is an Indo-european language, it’s interesting to see how all those miniscule similarities tie in!
And I’d want to learn Russian JUST so I could understand Crime and Punishment to its full caliber! It was amazing enough in English, but who knows what was lost in translation!

I have to agree with Prussia!: I think German is really quite lovely, particularly when it’s sung.

Yes! And Brothers Karamozov.

@Rorystar: One of our French teachers can converse very comfortably in French, German, and Spanish (and naturally English).

My favorites are Cantonese and Mongolian. Cantonese is like laughing gas. Mongolian sounds so cool and harsh.
English is a great language. I love British accents, but American English is endearing, too.
Git er done. lol

same with one of mine. Except…she’s a little spacey so many times in the middle of class she’d randomly switch to speaking in Spanish without noticing it until she saw the confused looks on our faces…o_O

^
I bet she just did that on purpose to mess with you guys.

Hi guys, just joining now.

I’ve been a Spanish student for years, in AP right now and going to spain in APRIL!!! YESS! But I would really love to learn Japanese. I just love the sound…and I wouldn’t mind if I could watch anime and jdrama without the English subtitles haha…

Also, I have a question. Did you guys get an application confirmation from Yale yet?

The statistics about total # of applications received per school are coming out right about now – does anyone have the # of students who applied to Yale RD?

Here’s what I have so far:
Stanford: ~32,000
Harvard: >30,000
Brown: >30,000
Princeton: ~26,000

holymolycows at above.
and @writing, no, havent got my confirmation yet. i got the commonapp ones though.
but dont stress till jan20. then scream and go insane and call the office. =]

For the applicant numbers, do you guys know how much they rose between last year and this year?

how dare you try to impose the 2400 onto me! rawr!

Hahaha cadillac <3

i just randomly friended one of the students in the new admissions video, and she offered to host me if I ever visit!
yalies are so friendly :D

seeing these crazy numbers makes me glad I didn’t apply to any other ivy/stanford

^Me neither; I’m actually expecting a decrease in their applications. I’m actually predicting Yale somewhere between 22-26k.

Why a decrease? That would make it the only ivy to see a stagnation if not decrease haha. True, it did decrease by like a few hundred for EA but I hope you’re right chibs.
