Yale 2015 Hopefuls

Interesting. Meh oh well

Interesting to read this in the link as well:

It supports my theory that candidates accepted during Y SCEA would have been accepted in ANY pool of applicants. That gives Y more time to woo these students, who are likely to get multiple acceptances from selective colleges if they choose to apply in the RD round. And for other highly qualified, but not necessarily stand out candidates, Y defers them to the RD so that they can then assess them in the larger pool of applicants. There is absolutely no benefit to Y in accepting anyone other than ‘for sure’ applicants in the SCEA round.

^Absolutely agree. There is no advantage to them to accept anyone other than top applicants either in ED or RD.

I love how someone posted my stats FOR me. Real, real smooth.

If you did not want them shared, I assumed that you would not have shared them originally. (I’m not sure really of the tone of your post, so I’ll just take a defensive stance. :))

^ Sorry if I caused a problem  if anything, you should be flattered iCalculus that you are just that awesome that people know/look up your stats. And thanks again silverturtle

Yale courting me would be a very enjoyable experience :).

Yale wanting me at all would be just as enjoyable. ;D

I’m not vain enough to even contemplate the idea.

So generally you’ve got a better shot at a school if you apply early, at least statistically speaking (yeah, I know there are recruited athletes and possibly a stronger applicant pool and all that but still…). And you DO show, at least for Yale’s SCEA, that you strongly want to go to Yale (b/c you didn’t apply early to another school).
However, for a qualified but unhooked applicant like me, is it pointless to apply SCEA since I’ll likely be deferred anyway? Would it be more prudent to apply to, say, UChicago EA?

Wouldn’t say UChicago is an easy shot either…

^^ It would appear that the SCEA admits are amongst the top admits from the the total group accepted. There does not seem to be any support from the admissions office that applying SCEA is a “hook” and that early interest is enough to gain admission compared to a matched candidate in RD. The benefit of SCEA is one may save lots of time, money and needless anxiety if successful on December 15. Close to 80% of the SCEA applicants not outright rejected are deferred to the RD pool and appear to have similar admission chances as the general RD pool. Silverturtle talks about the opportunity cost of a Yale SCEA application. ED elsewhere would likely “give you a better shot at a school” but I don’t know about other schools’ EA programs. Some posters even suggest that for anyone but the top tier of Stanford REA applicants, an early application there might reduce the likelihood of admission.

Just wanted to ask…

Is there anybody here (apart from me) who is applying to Yale with only TWO SAT subject tests?

i took Math 2 and French but I don’t want to take another one…

^me. 10char

Due to them not accepting score choice, I might send none. My USH was abysmal, but Chem was great.

My son was accepted last year (2014) and he only took 2 SAT II’s

wow. thank you for you both. I thought I would be the only one (and I mean only) that is applying with 2 SAT II’s

btw, @ engineerjw

what do you mean, you’ll send none? aren’t you obliged to send everything?

oh wait or r u only submitting ur ACT scores?

Interest? Y don’t care about no stinking interest.

^ Well said, unfortunately…

Yes, only ACT scores. I’m willing to pay the admission fee, and they accept just the ACT. So, why not?
