Yale 2015 Hopefuls

^ S was in the same situation: solid test scores except for one SAT II. He submitted the ACT alone and was admitted.

I’m surprised there’s not more leniency on sending all your SAT Subject Tests, at least in practice, if not in policy.

The colleges are unlikely to find out. Normally I am all for the more “ethical” thing to do, but I read a very interesting post once saying that the Ivies only demanded (and considered) all scores after CB implemented Score Choice. The OP felt that they were acting like “spoiled children.” And while I’m not sure that this is the case I do feel that applicants should be allowed to omit some of their scores…feeling sick, mis-bubbling, bad test day, poor proctor (during my SAT Subject test my proctor decided to redecorate the room…putting up and down posters, she even moved her desk!!) etc. Getting an 800 or 2400 the third time you take it may be less of a wow-factor, but the fact remains: you still received an 800/2400.

Luckily I’ve been happy with all of my SAT Subject tests so hopefully I will not run into this problem. However, there are some subject tests I’ve refrained from taking simply because of lack of Score Choice. Although I’m sure that I would have done fine, I did not want to take that risk.

That “very interesting post” is also very wrong. Before Score Choice, the CB ONLY sent ALL scores when you requested a score report. That’s ALL SAT & SAT 2s, to ANY school. So enough complaining already ;).

^ No I did not mean that they didn’t send them…I KNEW that CB sent them. The post was just describing that the Ivy League schools’ policy did not take lower test scores into consideration (verification of this?) UNTIL CB allowed score choice at which time these schools demanded that students send ALL scores.

As stated in a previous link that I provided, Y wants to see the testing history of applicants. They take the highest scores, but it is of interest to them exactly how those scores were reached. I guess I don’t find that spoiled or unreasonable, but rather a way to gather another piece of information about the candidate.

There is no “Ivy League” policy for Score Choice, each school makes their own policy. And “demanding” that all scores be sent is not unique to certain schools in the Ivy athletic league.

So what does everyone hope to major in? I’m leaning toward a biology major with a concentration in neurobiology.

Hi, I’m new to this thread and applying SCEA to Yale, class of 2015.
(Though I am applying to Yale SCEA, it is not my top pick. Brown is my top pick, but they only providing binding ED, and I’m not comfortable with that. Harvard, my second pick, no longer provides any sort of early program.)
I’m hoping to major in psych, and possibly English as well if they will let me double up.

So far I only have ACT, but I’m planning to take SAT I and 2 Sat IIs as well pretty soon. I’ll probably only submit my ACT if I don’t do as well as I’d hoped.

Does anyone know, if I get accepted to Yale SCEA, will this help or hinder me as far as regular decision admissions at other universities? (For instance, would Brown want me more because I was already admitted to another Ivy, or would they not even bother admitting assuming that Yale is my first choice?)

It would have no effect because other colleges would not know that you were accepted to Yale.

Thanks Silverturtle, you’re always good for an excellent answer.

I’ve always been curious about that. Let’s say that someone was accepted SCEA to Stanford or Yale and posted it in a public location (eg. Facebook, Tumblr, etc). Would other schools care enough to look up an applicant on said social networking sites and find out if he or she has been accepted to other schools via EA? I mean, I’d think that they hardly have enough time for that, but what are your thoughts about that?

I don’t think so. Each year, CCers post their information in the EA results threads (plenty to result in identification by admissions officers if they took the time to search) and they tend to end up quite successful during RD nonetheless.

ME ME ME! I’m definitely applying EA

I think im gonna apply! and i think i might have a better shot because of my job experience and sat scores…but im just crossin my fingers for now! hah!

Quick, someone start a Yale SCEA 2015 Hopefuls thread!

Hey guise, since we’re in the same boat, I think it’s best to ask you guys for advice.

For SAT Subject tests I’ve gotten 800 Math II (1st time), 740 Lit, 730 US History (670 the first time), and 710 Physics (700 the first time). Do you think it’s worth retaking Physics, or even Lit? Or should I just settle with these scores, esp. with the amount of times I’ve taken Physics. Bear in mind that this isn’t just for Yale but also other Ivy-level schools.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated. I just yesterday decided not to retake Lit and my motivation level for studying Physics is close to 0. (I only took Physics C: Mech and didn’t hardcore-hardcore studied for Physics SAT) I think this may be senioritis, but I’m not sure.

Thanks!!

You answered your own question :)

^Yes, Lit I’m pretty set on not taking anymore, cos what if I get worse lololol. Physics is a different question. I can definitely study for it if I stick myself in the library, but I don’t want to. But I’ll do it. And the 10 point increase made me really mad. Plus I haven’t used the holy grail of PR to study yet…idkidkidk.

@ mulbberrypie

You already have 4 decent scores, and you took some of them again. My advice? Stop. Yale only requires 2 subject tests, and says it will only look at your two best scores if multiple tests are taken

Plus, Yale requires you to send all test scores from all dates at which you took the tests, so you might not want to come off as an applicant obsessed with standardized test scores

As for me, I’m one of those few people here who is applying with only 2 SAT subject tests, Math II and French

Really. You’ve done enough.

I only have 2 usable SAT II scores too… eeek

Where does Yale say this?
