Yale 2015 Hopefuls

Colleges try to consider circumstances that may pose an obstacle to success. If it appears that an applicant’s poverty hindered him or her, I assume that considerations would be made.

I plan on applying :]

that’s an awesome SAT silverturtle! =)
At what SAT score is it really all the same to admissions people?
Also, do they consider the SAT and ACT equally? If one got a significantly higher ACt than SAT, would it be more advantageous to only submit the ACT?
One final question: how many times is too many to retake the ACT/SAT?
Thanks guys =)

You’ll find a healthy debate on that topic here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/895986-retake-2360-a.html</a>.

Officially, top colleges consider the SAT and ACT equally. Some speculate, however, that the east-coast schools may have a slight preference for the SAT. Nonetheless, if your ACT is better by a large margin, just send that. If they are close, send both.

silver, I’d really appreciate the excel tool. You rock.

I might apply. However, my SAT score score is dismal. I feel like you people on this sight are gods. In real life everyone treats going to Yale as almost impossible. This sight makes it look easy. In reality, I will not get in. I enjoy watching people on this sight get in, though.

@engineerjw i wonder if they count spelling on the SAT, maybe you should ask someone on this SITE :P

thanks silverturtle. I’ll probably submit both.

Wow this is so weird. I never imagined this day would come so fast… btw I plan on applying.

Yeah, I’m applying, probably SCEA since only Stanford out of HYPSM has EA earlier than Yale, right? Anyway, I’m pumped and can’t wait for January to hear!

@psk2232 - I wouldn’t do it just because Stanford is the only one (other than Yale) to have a SCEA program. You have to really want to go there, and your application might not be as good as it could be during the SCEA cycle. I got into HYPM but not Stanford, and I applied to Stanford early. I really wanted to go there and would have chosen it over the others, but remember: you’re competing against a different demographic during the SCEA cycle as opposed to the RD cycle. From what I’ve heard, Stanford likes to accept athletes and minorites during the SCEA cycle. I’m very much for athletes and affirmative action, so I’m not criticizing Stanford at all for this, I’m just saying it might be harder for you.

Anonymous93, I know quite a few students who are neither minorities nor athletes (nor legacies) who have been admitted to Stanford SCEA, including this year. They are, however, extremely academically qualified and very interesting, unusual people.

PS: I’m sorry you didn’t get admitted to your top choice, but you certainly have an amazing range of choices–congratulations on all those!!

Both S & Y accept many athletes and URMs in the EA round, I don’t think they’re too different in that aspect. However, their policies towards deferral are very different. S states that it prefers to give a thumbs up or down decision immediately:

[Restrictive Early Action : Stanford University](http://www.stanford.edu/dept/uga/application/decision_process/restrictive.html)

Y on the other hand deferred 50% of it’s EA applicants this year:

[Yale Daily News - Early admit rate rises slightly](http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/university-news/2009/12/15/early-admits/)

So, your chances for a ‘second chance’ are much higher at Y. It’s just my opinion, but I think that S & Y accept candidates in the EA round who they would select from ANY pool of applicants. Think about it, if there’s any question about whether or not a candidate will fit into the class they are forming, they just defer them and take another look once all of the RD applicants are in. There’s no benefit in them accepting a borderline candidate in the EA round. So, unless you’re an uber competitive candidate, you might want to think twice about applying in the EA round to S.

Whoops, my mistake. Site.

I started a thread like this in the Princeton forum and no one has answered.

I will apply but I am not sure whether I will apply SCEA. I kind of like Stanford better. Silverturtle, do you have a stats compilation for Stanford SCEA?

An Asian guy with 2200 SATI got into Yale SCEA. But he’s international.

Another poster completed one: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/651345-race-college-admissions-faq-discussion-3-a-50.html#post1062681634</a></p>

Silver–I got a question for ya!

If one’s applying RD, when’s the last date one can take the SATs before the deadline?

Also I will aply to Yale as international student for class '15:D

Good luck to all of you:D

Good luck to you as well
