Yale 2015 Hopefuls

^If the family income is below US$60,000 then you will probably get financial aid to cover all your needs if accepted. Just google some key words and you will find the answers.

The above applies only to Y and a handfull of other very selective colleges that have FA policies to cover 100% of need without loans for low income families.

helen, you need to do some research on how need based FA and merit scholarships work, either get a book or go to the finaid website. Then use the sticky threads here on CC to find colleges that look like they might provide adequate FA or merit aid for your situation. Next, go directly to the individual college websites to read about their policies. You might also try Questbridge, see the subforum under FA & Scholarships.

Thank you for your answers!!They were really helpful…I looking right now for this.Thank you again:D

Good luck everybody! :)

very unrelated but still important:

Is Yale rather an artsy school? 'Cuz I like amazing guitar guys  melting

100% need colleges (for domestic students):

This list includes schools that are nearly-100% need, too.

Note that this is not the same as “need-blind” colleges, but there is substantial overlap between the two groups. Colleges that are both can be found in this article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Need-blind_admission

Note the article also specifies the six colleges that include international students in their policies.

You’ve probably seen this before but just in case…
seems pretty artsy to me! I do think Yale still has a strong focus in the humanities, political science and the like, but they also seemed to have a strong range of artistic interests from what I saw while I was there.

thanks imagodei. :)

to everyone: let’s feel what these emoticons feel -> :slight_smile: :slight_smile: :slight_smile:

It keeps us moving.

I guess it’s a year too early, but here’s something by Robert Frost:
In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.

I am worry about something. The major that I want to study is Mechanical Engineering. But I am worry due to the fact that I didn’t have enough activities in this field as extracurriculars. I have done enough in Astronomy and Astrophysics realm (National and International Olympiad, awards, projects etc). The only things that i have done and which are related with the field that I want to study are the articles that I writing and specifically in Aerospace Engineering(which is one of the reasons that I am going to apply in US universities) to national magazine…

Would be negative for me??Some people told me that I should apply in Physics Department and I dont want it.My dream job is, to be a rocket scientist…

And I dont want my question seems a picture of inconfidence or a try to show my extracurriculars. Not at all…I am just worried…

I’m back in the running! I got an ACT score that is much better than my SAT score, thankfully. I hope my ECs and essays will convey who I am well enough…

^ Good to hear haha.

The funny thing is, Yale will be cheaper than Brown for undergrad, but Brown will be cheaper for my PhD. XD Pleeeeease let me get in…

Whoops, sorry! Didn’t know that.
Any particular reason why that is?

I’m not sure.

To prevent the entire CC flooded by Youtube links?? :)

So I have a question:

Last year my sister was accepted into Yale-she went to a private school and they basically prepared her to go to an ivy as she got accepted to EVERY single school she applied to. Although she was Waitlisted from the SCEA, later on in the year before RD admission letters came out she got a call from the dean of admissions to tell her that her application was pretty much astounding and although they couldn’t say she got in, they told her congratulations…
Anyways, next year, I’m thinking of applying to Yale as well… except I go to a public school where people rarely get accepted to ivies, unless you are valedictorian or saludatorian. I’m neither. So I know my chances of getting into the school increased because of my sister, but did they drop tremendously because of my school and the fact that I haven’t scored as high as her on my SATs?

Your chances do not increase just because of your sister’s acceptance at Yale.

Well yeah, if your scores aren’t as high and your grades aren’t as good and your school isn’t as good, you’re likely not going to be that great of an applicant.

Peach, maybe you would like to share your stats? Admission process is a bit of a game and gamble.
