Lol. I kind of love you. You should get into Yale.

I have great stats and ECs, but I’m hookless…

@dirtyprojector
I made this thread because I wanted to see what the applicant pool looks like in terms of numbers. I said that numbers by no means define all of a person’s true strengths and weaknesses as an applicant, as there is so much more that goes into an application.

You should’ve just read my opening post…

So, I’m kind of realizing that I got a bit too upset. I’m sorry if I offended everybody. Those scores are something to be proud of. This whole process is just really stressful and seeing these numbers just kind of ****ed me off. Sorry everybody!

yeah. i get scared seeing all these numbers too

even though im sorta low on numbers and have mediocre EC’s, at least im proud to be competing against these awesome people! :)

Although I wouldn’t have expressed my feelings quite in the way he did, I do sort of agree with dirtyprojector. From what I understand, in fact everything I understand, about applying to Yale et al. is that the grades and scores are much less relevant than everything else. It’s taken as a given that they’re good and then it’s what’s on top that decides your fate.

Of course, I’m from England and only got into this college application experience a couple of months ago, while many of you have probably been looking into it for years, so I may be eactly wrong. That said, it does feel a bit like a “oooh look at what I got” thread.

Either way, @ Silverturtle, your salad rebuttal was very good!

^I agree that once you reach a certain range of scores, it’s more the essays, EC’s etc. that matter. But it’s interesting to see how many people reach those scores, and how well they do too.

The reality of it is that the two most self-selecting groups of applicants in the whole process are the ones that go Stanford REA or Yale SCEA. The test scores are merely the entry ticket; then the applicant has to show what else they bring to the table.

On the note that it’s an entry ticket, I’d agree. More likely than not, the scores aren’t going to make or break the applicant deep into the application process. I think it’ll just open the door to be seriously considered at best.

But the transcript is still the most important part of the application.

^^ srs discussion.

Well, back on topic:
SAT: 780/770/800 (one time)
SATII: Biology Eco - 780
SATII: Math II - 770

Class rank: School doesn’t rank, but probably 1% of 400ish.
GPA: 4.0 / 4.4

:)
ACT: 29
Class rank: 5/321
GPA: 99.547/100 (w)

SAT: 2350
SATII: 770/800

omg, it is just me, or are the stats significantly better this year? judging from this thread, having <2300 for SAT I is like an outlier…

Also, I’m a URM…

The average stats for this applicant pool are almost certainly about the same as those for the last applicant pool. Three layers of self-selection are coming into play on this thread: the decision to apply to Yale SCEA, the decision to come on College Confidential, and the decision to post in this thread.

Sat: 2380
Sat II: 800/800/780
Gpa: 4.00/95 (grade 9 really brought me down with the 91 average I got, but for the rest of the grades, I’ve really improved, so you never know, and an A in my school is 87, so I easily got a 4.00 GPA, but of course, I normally get 95+ grades)
Rank: 1

@Raul: 99% is amazing! Though why didn’t you retake the act?

@Xdarkness^ - I actually took it junior year and got a 27. I took it again in September and got a 29…
I would retake it again, but I’m afraid that my math abilities are downtrending. I blame the achievement gap… :(

Bob: Hey Joe, what food are you bringing to the party tomorrow?
Joe: Fruit salad.
Bob: That’s cool; I’m bringing potato salad.
Third Party: Wow! We’re people, not salads. What’s wrong with you guys? Y’all need to get over your ability to make salad already.

I’m really sorry I’m not an admissions officer. Because if I was one, I would track you down immediately and accept you on the spot. That aside, please marry me now kthx.

"Also, I’m a URM… "

Well, being an URM is worth bragging? You should feel ashamed of being admitted by Yale because you achieved it with your race.
