Yale 2015 SCEA Hopefuls

Someone suggested this on the Yale 2015 Hopefuls Thread. I thought I might as well make one as I recently decided that I didn't have the guts to apply ED to Columbia, and that I would apply SCEA to Yale.

I intend to apply SCEA.

Haha, that someone was me. Glad someone took my suggestion to heart!

I intend to apply SCEA as well.

I’m going for SCEA as well.
We should all keep in touch to see what happens on that fateful day come December.

I’m debating between SCEA and RD. Currently, Yale is my first choice, but I don’t know if I want to take part in the SCEA round because I’ve heard it’s more cutthroat than the RD round.

Regardless of whether or not I become a QuestBridge finalist, I will be applying to Yale early.

I’m applying SCEA, too. l’m nervous about competing with the likes of silverturtle, though!

I will apply SCEA under the condition that, if deferred, my app will be reconsidered “fresh” with the others apps. I’ve heard two things about how they reconsider the deferrals: that they take a whole new look at them and that they take another look at them after all of the other RD apps to see if there are any standouts that they missed. Once I find this out (if anyone knows, your help would be appreciated) I’ll make my final decision.

We should all post our stats and info on here to see how we compare!

pkm: I think the general consensus is that they claim to do the first, but in actuality practice the latter - but someone more experienced/qualified may say something different. I’m a bit curious myself as well.

I believe them when they say that they consider the apps “fresh.”

Hmm, that’s an interesting point. Ideally, they would have a system where an adcom reviews deferred applications without knowing that they were deferred.

Planning to apply SCEA! And silverturtle, what made you change your mind? I remember a while back that you said you were planning on applying RD because SCEA was tougher, in the Yale 2015 hopefuls thread.

Yes, I have changed my mind, though not about the idea that applying SCEA confers any advantage. After I reworked my college list a bit, I found that UChicago and MIT were the only two schools that I intended to apply to that offered EA. At the moment, I would probably attend Yale over either of those schools, so I decided to go for Yale early.

I intend to apply SCEA. Yale’s my first choice, and it would be nice to have that early piece of mind if I’m lucky enough to get accepted. I have to get my testing in check though.

I don’t want this to turn into some competitive thing but I’ll bite.

SAT: 2280
UW GPA: 3.96, ranked 5th out of 500ish
AP/Honors classes: 9 so far (all that are available)
ECs: 4 based on environmental stuff, 2 on tribal stuff, 1 on journalism stuff
Race: Amerindian
Gender: Male

drools…

Ooomg, I know. ):

I’ve been mocked and ridiculed for being Native American before, so…you take the good with the bad.

me. if rejected, I WANT it to be in december.
