All right, so Yale wasn’t even on my radar until earlier this week when I received that ridiculous book in the mail (Did anyone else get that? It impressed me.) and now that I’ve done my research, I’ve pretty quickly decided it’s my first choice, to the point where I want to apply early.

However, since I haven’t even considered applying anywhere early until now, I’ve procrastinated on my application and honestly haven’t even looked at the Common App of any supplement yet. I see you guys have been working on it since the first of August. My question is: do I have enough time to write essays and get everything together and apply SCEA by November 1?

I’m thinking it’ll take me at least a month which I (barely) have, but then will I be at a disadvantage because I just barely got my app in before the deadline? I’m just wondering your opinion on this.

For what it’s worth, I’m not a slam-dunk admit, but I have the stats (35, 2380, val) and geographical diversity (Arkansas) to allow me to think I may have a chance to make it through the gauntlet that is SCEA. Plus, I’d love to get that early decision. But do I have the time to do it?

There is no need to concern yourself about “just barely getting your app in before the deadline”. Your rationale for SCEA is solid. You have plenty of time to apply so long as you feel you are not rushed to complete/edit your essays.

I’m applying to Yale SCEA, I’ve decided. There’s no chance I’m getting in, though, I have (for Yale, at least) average SAT scores, public school girl, academic extracurriculars, not very well rounded. But I’d love to go to Yale (totally want to be a Yale Libertarian and a Yogis at Yale member) so here I come SCEA! I’d be ECSTATIC to be deferred.

On the section of the common app that asks about academic honors, would I put down information about national/international recognition for Debate (because that’s an academic activity)? What about being published in a national french magazine sponsored by the AATF? Or would these go in the Activities section?

I scrapped all the essays i wrote earlier and now literally have NONE. Plus i have SAT 2’s next month so studying for those.

To all the people who got 800’s on Math 2 (and that seems to be everyone who ever posted on this thread)- how long did you guys study? I have 11 days now and i got 690 on my diagnostic which i took 2 days back. How bad is that?

I gave myself about a month to study. I used the Barron’s review book, read through the chapters, and did like 5 practice tests. Every single one of those practice tests I scored in the mid 600’s.

Needless to say, I was ecstatic when I saw the 800 on the real thing. My advice: use Barron’s, don’t get discouraged by the tough practices, and study away!
