Yale 2015 SCEA Hopefuls

@T26E4

Yeah… you are right. Maybe I’m just too distraught… Gotta take a deep breathe now. Thank you for pointing that out, seriously.

no worries winning. I hope my tone didn’t offend. I sympathize with peoples’ anxiety but one must know that a level of serendipity is involved here and that for 99.95% of Yale aspirants, they’ll go on to extremely successful collegiate careers, regardless of which college grants them a diploma in 4/5 years. Good luck to you and congrats on your achievements to date

He or she is obviously compliment fishing… I’m sure you’ve seen plenty of these types of post on CC already.

my first post on cc!

I was reading the first few pages of this thread, and i have a question: is scea really harder than rd?? I thought there was at least a little benefit to applying early, other than hearing earlier. Can anyone explain why they are applying scea if it is harder to get in??

It’s harder to get in through SCEA because it is generally when the more qualified/competitive students apply. The people who are accepted SCEA are the people who they are sure would also be accepted in the regular round regardless of the applicants that are sent in for regular decision. I don’t believe it will hurt you at all to apply SCEA since you will likely only be rejected early if you definitely would not make it in regular either, but if you have a chance, they’ll just defer you with about 50% of the other early applicants and reevaluate your application with the regular applicants

Thanks! That makes a lot of sense

bumppp. This thread has become exceedingly inactive.

^True. I have an idea: can we work together to make a checklist of what we need to do as SCEA applicants and the associated deadlines? That would make the whole process a bit less confusing. For example, I just read that the CSS profile should be submitted by the 17th to get there in time by Nov. 1. Thank god for CC.

So:
Common Application
Yale Supplement
SAT/ACT Scores
CSS Profile w/ 2009 Tax returns
Counselor Report + Teacher Recs (anyone know by when these should be mailed out so that they get to Yale in time, or do they just have to be postmarked by the 1st?)
What else?

^Great idea.

Well also the sports supplement if you’re sending it. Though that comes in the commonapp.

I think you covered everything.

What about financial aid forms for internationals? Or do we require none as of now?

^I’m not an international, but this should help you out:
[Yale University Financial Aid > Prospective & Transfer Students > Early Action Application Guidelines for Non-Canadian International Students](<a href=“Welcome | Student Financial and Administrative Services”>Welcome | Student Financial and Administrative Services)

Do you know anything about when I should have my recs submitted by since I’m not doing those online?

Well the AO who came to my school said they should reach by November 1st. I think. Don’t remember exactly, sorry.

I have the same question:
When do counselor and teacher recs need to be mailed in order to reach by November 1? Also, where did you find that CSS Profile needs to be mailed by the 17th in order to reach by November 1?

I heard it on CC, and not from an official Yale source of info, so you can’t be sure.

when did you guys approach your guidance counselors for recommendations?

I did it when school started. However, I was a little late in approaching teachers; I just did yesterday…do you think this is cutting it too close?

As long as they finish it in the next week or ten days you don’t need to worry. Just request them to finish it soon and I’m sure they’ll comply.

My teachers said they’ll finish mine by the 18th but i’m out of town till the 20th for MUN so i guess i’ll mail mine on the 21st. fingers crossed

…Don’t you just use the Common App to send your recommendations? I thought that the Common App has your recommenders attach their recommendations…is this not the case?

Done with SAT scores and CSS!

What is it that makes Ivy League acceptance more difficult for internationals but easier for immigrants? (I’m not an international just curious)
