Yale 2015 SCEA Hopefuls

I never realized that Yale’s EA was single choice, and I actually sent in a supplement to another school EA >> Do you think it would be possble to get that school to move me to RD? The reason I wanted to do EA there was to increase my chances at getting a nice merit scholarship (I don’t even know if applying EA would even help for that ><)

Do we have our own mailboxes at Yale or do we have p.o. boxes

I’m following suit and applying to Chicago EA, as well (not applying to Georgetown though). I figure, I’d most likely be deferred SCEA round anyway, so might as well try my hand at another school first. Gotta be realistic :stuck_out_tongue:

Good luck all of you SCEAers :slight_smile: Hopefully I’ll join you in acceptances in April

Wait, so do you guys all think that applying scea will help in terms of admissions? because yale is my first choice but id be really happy with penn ed which is the other option im considering

See post #157.

I’m going to do either Yale EA or Stanford EA, trying to pick one. There’s no edge either way, right? I know Yale tends to defer–> reject and Stanford tends to reject right away, but are there any other differences?

I much prefer how Stanford gets to the point and rejects, like, 70% of their SCEA applicants. Yale unnecessarily prolongs the slow, painful process for half the early applicants.

@ mj rothlan…I remember reading one of silverturtle’s posts saying that Stanford EA can actually hurt your chances bc they do reject so many applicants

It’s funny.

I’m 100% sure that there is almost no chance of me getting in SCEA, but I just can’t NOT apply when I CAN. I just hope that December 15th would come fast and make me see the reality.

Do any of you, like me, feel that you already know what your decision would be? but are applying anyway just for the heck of it?

I so wish i could say yes to that question in reference to a yes from Yale. :slight_smile:
But no, i don’t know what my decision will be.

I think Yale is my top choice, so I’m going to apply SCEA. I’m really not sure whether I’d get in or not, because I don’t have any big awards like USAMO or Science Olympiad. If one is deferred by Yale, is the applicant permitted to send in additional materials as the applicants gains more awards, does more things, etc?

One big reason I’m planning on EA is so I will get myself in order earlier, even if I’m doing RD. I’m keeping a mindset that “I’m going to be ready to press submit on November 1st.”

@cyborg939: Yes, I believe you can send in additional materials.
@Descartez: Thanks for mentioning the AI calculator! I found it and it is helpful (somewhat).

Yes, you can update the adcoms on your accomplishments (though I’d keep it to a brief email mentioning only the biggest/most important updates).

I was wondering.

Is there anyone here, apart from me, who is applying to Yale **without a resume /B ?

I’m going to fill out the EC section (like 1~2 sentences explanation on each of my activities), do the 150 words explanation on one of the activities (like commonapp asks you to do), and that’s it.

I don’t know what I’m gonna put on the additional info yet, but nothing about my activities tho. Not gonna attach a document. Will this decrease my chance of getting into Yale?

So, anyone else?

my son is not planning to add anything to the EC section. He will address his unusual EC in his common app essay.

I’m not planning on attaching a resume either

I find resumes stupid, and I will not have one attached to my applications.

@impetuous,
About applying SCEA despite knowing your decision…
STORY OF MY LIFE.

@chompha

haha glad to know someone’s with me :)

wait, but were you able to fit all you wanted to say on that small space on common app? i was thinking bout putting extra details in additional info. do you think thats a bad idea?
