Your source is mistaken. The 50th percentile for the class of 2015 was

Are there possible outliers with outstanding stories? Likely a dozen or so among the 29,000 applications. But if you’re aiming to be one of those b/c you have less than extraordinary test scores, you’re aiming for failure. An essay will get people’s attention but won’t resurrect an otherwise dead application.

I also understand that you’re an international applicant. That pool is even more hyper competitive given Yale’s generous financial aid. You’d have to be among your country’s best graduating high school students to be viable.

Yes,definatly i do understand how important SAT scores are to get into such competetive schools. But i just heard about this guy who got into YALE with his essay and defiantly the story about this guy isn’t fictional becz this story was on front page on National news papers. He had a very average SAT scores.Definatly i do think these kindda applicants are very very rare.

One thing that i think is that ,students who are genuine and of top notch can only get scores above 700-800 in each sections. So,these kindda applicants can only prove why they are different from others, they can only show their dedication and originality to admission officers through their writing. But defiantely there do exists some people like this guy who probably had proved his worth through his writing despite getting a very average scores.Defiantely, the number of these kinnda applicants are very less and defiantely they aren’t selected from normal pool of applicants having a score of 2400 or so…But i do have great respect for these kindda students becz they are able to prove their worth through the portray of just few words. But the general pool for YALE IS DEFINATELY THOSE GETTING HIGH SAT SCORES AS YOU SAID AND IT’S DEFINATELY NOT EASY TO GET SUCH SCORES.I HAVE RESPECT FOR BOTH KINDDA APPLICANTS.
