Yale 2016 SCEA Discussion Thread

Although I have read the posts that say getting an interview doesn’t matter, is that for candidates who live in an area where there aren’t enough alumni interviewers available? If one applied SCEA and did not get an interview in an area where there are plenty of alumni available, is that a negative sign?

Based on how fast many people get contacted for an interview, I doubt that Yale prescreens people before asking alumni to interview them. From talking to a Harvard interviewer, he said that for the majority of people, by the time a reader gets to your interview evaluation, the reader knows whether or not the applicant is getting in. Only for a few can it sway the reader. Also, only extreme evaluations (this kid was dumb or unable to carry a conversation) would change a reader’s mind about their decision.

My guess is not getting an interview in a high density area of alumni is more based on a large number of applicants in the area.

Hey guys! I guess the SCEA application number was released!! 4,310! I also read in an article posted on another thread in the Yale forum that they expect to admit 650-750 students… This means we roughly have a 1 in 6 shot! Good luck all!!

Thanks ender94, I’m trying to keep applicant calm, but it’s going to be a looooong wait until Dec. 15. Just hoping for anything but a rejection!

That’s around a 16% admit rate? Sounds extremely high to me… but I don’t want to get my hopes up haha. And I still don’t have an interview either… kind of worried, but since they state it doesn’t make a difference, I don’t think I need to be. As for the game YALE ALL THE WAY haha

Here is the article everyone http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/2011/nov/18/number-early-applicants-drops/?cross-campus

Nevermind I take that back about 16% being high after doing some research on past stats :/

I’d provide another link for you:

Best of luck guys!

Had my interview today…an old guy from the class of 1957. He was really nice and a low-key, but it seemed a bit pointless because he didn’t remember anything about Yale.
(Such as which residential college he was in :P)

I am kind of surprised…

I had an on-campus interview during the summer which went quite well…yet just 10 minutes ago I got an invitation for an alumnus one, too. Judging from the text of the email, I do believe that the alumnus does NOT know that I already had one. So, should I politely turn down the offer, telling him my story? Or should I accept the offer? Or should I tell the interviewer and let him decide what to do?

I have no problem with going through another one hour of “Why Yale?”, “Tell me about yourself” type of questions. However, I don’t want to waste the time of the guy either…

Suggestions? :)

Thanks.

Well, in that case I suggest you tell him and let him decide. And it seems that alum interviews do not carry that much weight, so you may easily save an hour of his life if he wants to do that…or not and get another good interview if the alum wants to interview you either way .)

just had my interview>< I was kinda nervous but I think it went fine. It took about an hour (although it seemed like it was longer…)She said she thought I was very energetic and that I’d be fine anywhere…I hope it was a good report><

If I haven’t gotten an interview by now does this mean I probably won’t get one?

I just had my interview. It turned out that my intervewer actually grew up down the street from where I live now and we even share some of the same high school teachers.
Overall I thought it went fairly well and it lasted over an hour.

I have a friend at Yale that got his interview the last week of November. There’s still hope!

Interview lasted an hour longer than expected. I guess that’s a good thing?

I guess now all I do is wait.

Jealous of all you receiving interviews. Southwest Missouri apparently isn’t well populated with Yale alumni. Who knew?

Confirmed: I also got the letter “Congrataulations on your academic success…” Counselor said they are pretty standard for high scoring standardized test takers and anyone on their info request list.

Just had my interview as well. It only lasted like 50 minutes but it was amazing. We had a fair amount in common. Now I really really really want to go haha (as opposed to only one really before). 22 days…

I had my MIT interview yesterday, and the interviewer said that the campus is ugly and the food there is terrible. Not sure if this was his intention, but I want to go to Yale even more now. -__-
