Yale 2016 SCEA Discussion Thread

I visited the QB website, and it says applicants are not able to apply for SCEA…?

I could be wrong, but I believe QB is in lieu of SCEA…you apply around the same time and hear back around the same time, but it is technically a different admission channel than SCEA or RD.

Hm. Go figure.

Well, is anyone else finding it difficult to work on RD college applications? I feel like I’m in this weird limbo/stasis where I can’t get motivated to apply to other schools while I’m still waiting on Yale. XD Not good.

@galavantian, yes! I just can’t make myself care about schools that I don’t love as much as Yale, which could be bad if I’m rushing to finish them after finding out I was rejected :o

[Some Asians’ college strategy: Don’t check ‘Asian’ - Yahoo! News](http://news.yahoo.com/asians-college-strategy-dont-check-asian-174442977.html)

I thought this was kinda relevant. Hoped to spark some sort of conversation.

I personally did check Asian on my app. Anyone not?

In my opinion, students should try to reflect their genuine selves and “check” whichever race they truly consider themselves… then again, many students do try to “play the game” and it works out for them just as well.

Absolutely. Considering ill probably just get deferred anyhow, it’s not a good idea either.

It’s nice to know someone else feels the same way. :P

Thank god for the common app - I’m waiting on my results before focusing too much on the Supplements

Has anyone noticed an additional “required from others” item on their application status page? I have school report, and now school report -Online… Does anyone know how the second one differs from the first?

@ Galvantian

I really have not done any work on college apps since submitting Yale… My goal was to apply to 9 others by Dec. 15. One a day? I can do it haha.

@swimfreak001

I do not see what you describe on my eli account.

I don’t see that either…

I’ve got it too. I don’t know what the difference is though. I did submit my transcript online if that makes a difference from people who mailed it

All of my school forms were submitted online too, but my status page still hasn’t changed.

my status page has not changed either!!and it was submitted online. Did u guys that had a change send in additional online material like first semester or quarter grades?

I think my counselor sent in the optional report, but that was a while ago. Maybe it is that though.

My counselor said she was asked for my grades earlier this week, but I still don’t see that. I’m starting to read too much into this…

Hmm I can’t think of what it is. My guidance counselor wouldn’t be the type to send something else in unless I asked her/without telling me. Hmm indeed.

I hear a rumor that when an early school asks for your grades, it means they are on the fence about you… It’s happpened to a few of my friends for other schools, and our college counselor hinted to them that their schools are on the fence

I sincerely hope my counselor did not send my 1st quarter grades. My econ teacher gave me a B. I had an F on grades online forever since I took a test a day late and he never updates it. When he did at the end of the quarter I had a solid A but somehow he put a B in for my report card and wouldn’t change it since “it doesn’t matter.” While a B is not terrible, I would just rather it not be there especially when I listed econ as a possible major.

Do you by any chance have an upward trend in grades? Like maybe lower grades as a freshman/sophomore and now they just want to be sure there is indeed a solid upward swing? Or maybe you have a much harder schedule this year and they want to see how you are coping?
