Yale 2016 SCEA Discussion Thread

ughhh two of my friends got into georgetown today >< I really want to know about yale NOW, just to get it over with. 3 more days.

This morning my Principal was talking to a couple teachers and when she saw me she was like “When are you getting accepted by Yale?” and then she was getting all excited. Same story with a few other people throughout the day… chances are high that I won’t be able to go to school on Friday LOL

hahah…
every day leading up to Thursday is another burden.

Are the days passing slowly for y’all because you are so anxious, or quickly because you’re dreading it? Or a strange, out-of-body mixture of the two?

slowly, definitely. I would love for the days to pass quickly, quickly, quickly. It’s strange, but I’m more looking forward to having other people stop saying “You’ll definitely get into Yale” or “We have to throw a party for you on Friday!” etc. than anything else…

Hey good luck to everyone. It’s a crap shoot. I haven’t looked through the thread at all, but how does everyone feel about the decline in applications?

There’s a part of me (a fairly large part) that refuses to work productively on other applications until I hear from Yale…
Can’t wait to do 12 college supplements in 15 days, along with Christmas / New Year’s celebrations!

@NickDiPreta:
I see this is your first post. Welcome to CC!

I think the 18% drop is barely going to change EA admissions.
Like noted before, the EA rate will stay at a dismal 15-17%

Maybe I’m missing something in my logic, but wouldn’t a decrease in applications + same if not

greater no. of spots (due to two new residential colleges) lead to a higher acceptance rate?

[Ivy League Admission Statistics for Class of 2015 Hernandez College Consulting, Inc. and Ivy League Admission Help](http://www.hernandezcollegeconsulting.com/ivy-league-admissions-statistics/)

You’ve probably seen these statistics, but a 14.48% acceptance rate to a 17% or even 16% acceptance rate is somewhat encouraging. No?

Unfortunately, the two new residential colleges aren’t coming until two more years or so? At any rate, admissions acceptance rate due to their arrival won’t change just yet.

But, I mean yeah, I suppose the 15-17% is slightly more encouraging than the 14.48% Yale had last year. But just remember, this slight increase isn’t due to the residential colleges, but because of the reinstatement of the Harvard/Princeton EA programs ->
Yale can be more confident of a higher yield, because students really had to pick between these schools. The people that decided to SCEA to Yale are probably those that have it as their first-choice school.
In the past (such as last year), many just applied to Yale EA to have a school to apply to early / to have an admit in the basket - they were never really very committed.

When we first opened the chatroom we lightly discussed that. I was on the side that reasoned it would stay relatively the same, because with H and P reinstating their SCEA programs, Y’s yield should be better for our class. But there were arguments considering the spread of the “all star” candidates throughout HYP. As for the residential college expansion, I think we said that was a moot point because they’d probably expand the class slowly over time, not enough to make a big difference. Either way, I would say there might be a little boost, but definitely not a high one. Then again, I might be completely wrong haha

MODERATOR NOTE: I will open an Official EA Decision thread on Dec. 15. Please do not start another thread.

Thanks, EM

^This notice made my heart beat a little faster.

And yeah, I agree with everything youwrotethis said, haha.
I think that the people who applied SCEA to Yale really do have it as their first-choice school… I think people wisely noted the relatively nice double digit acceptance rate vs. the cruel single digit acceptance rate.

those harvard kids are shaming you guys, they’ve got 87 odd pages in their chat compared to a pitiful 39 pages here in the yale chat…
lolzzzz i’m just kidding…superrrrr bored w/ nothing productive to do, guess this is why I’m not getting accepted…i’m not diligent enough for a place like YALEEEE :"(

that’s just because we’re busier than those harvard kids
i believe we already clarified this
…says me, responding a mere 16 minutes later.

Hi, I applied SCEA to Yale too…I just saw this CC thread.

I think I might have seen an earlier post with a link to a countdown timer, but I did make my own
[Yale EA Countdown - Online Countdown](http://countdown.free-and-online.com/?timer=ufynne4779)
tried to make it as close to Yale colors as I could (:

Eeeeep I’m super nervous. Good luck to everyone who applied as well!

I don’t have school on Thursday…I’m going to be nervous allllllll day. I’m not expecting anything but I can’t help but have a small ray of hope in the back of my head. 3 more days.

Yale called one of my teachers and asked for more information. They tried emailing her at an address she doesn’t use and neither of us gave her. What could this mean?

^ lolToasty, I think it’s good news! I heard before that if a school asks for more information, then they are either on the fence about rejection/deferral or deferral/ACCEPTANCE. Since Yale went through all the trouble of emailing your teacher at an address that they had to look up themselves, I think you’re on the deferral/ACCEPTANCE fence! I’m sure your teacher will say something great about you, too. :)

i’m so jealous! wish yale cared enough to contact my teachers(: congrats, lolToasty!
