Yale 2016 SCEA Discussion Thread

Your first sentence is also the first impression the reader will get. I agree that you want to grab them. But I disagree that a title is needed to grab them. Sometimes the reader is lead on because he or she does not get all of the information in the first paragraph. If your title tells what your essay is about in that case, then you are losing that “element of surprise” that will make your essay memorable.

question, how do they know if you sent all your SAT scores or not?

So the app went in today. It’s out of my hands. How did you all feel when you turned it in?

my app went a couple days ago too

it felt weird. i felt like i couldn’t look at my application anymore because i’d find something that i’d want to change…lol

Hey guys. International student, prospective EP&E major. My senior year’s been a complete ***** (IB should be illegal). Yale is my REACH in caps lock but worst case I’m contributing $75 to the endowment that’ll fund you all ;)

I felt like I had just jumped off an infinitely high cliff when I clicked submit. I’ll be in perpetual free fall for the next seven weeks.

my click was really bad… i clicked and nothing happened… cuz my internet died…

When you submit your scores on College Board, you go through many confirmation steps. In the last or second to last one, it should say that you are sending ALL SCORES to Yale. =)

Stupid question, but can we send on the day of the deadline (Nov. 1) by 11:59 PM?

Hmm, I was pretty sure that it was October 31st by 11:59 p.m.

Seeing as I’ve not yet finished my supplement essay, I need all the time I can get. Eek. @@;

I sent my SAT score report on October 15, and when I logged in to see the status of application documents, they weren’t there. Should I be concerned? How long do these things take to process?

And good luck everyone! :)

According to the Yale website, it takes about three weeks to get test scores, so I wouldn’t worry yet.

My common app is done with my CSS profile, but do I have to send my SAT official score report now if I’m taking November SAT IIs? And do I have to submit a transcript or does Yale do that on their own in contact with my school?

If you order your Score Report now, it won’t have your Nov scores on it. Send Y one of your free Score Reports from your Nov sitting. You are responsible for getting your HS transcript to any school you apply to.

Yale’s website states that the last possible test date of the SAT’s for early action applicants is in November. So I assume that they would still accept scores past the deadline. If anyone could confirm that, I would greatly appreciate it.

Y knows that Nov scores won’t show up until the end of the month. If they didn’t accept scores sent after the Nov 1 EA deadline, they would have stated that Oct was the last possible sitting, ala S:

Hmmm I got a 730 on Math II and a 740 on USH, how is this going to affect me if I somehow don’t break 750 on Math II this Saturday?

I got 700 math 2 and 710 on history… But a 5 on the AP us exam and 100 in the class… (my precalc teacher did not teach all the topics on the subject test exam so I tried to teach them to myself). I hope they look past my bad subject test scores but I couldn’t see wasting more time preparing for them. I think if you apply, it won’t be subject test scores that hurt you.

Just sent my app in!! Let the waiting begin!!

on yales website it says it has my application, supplement, and payment, but not my test scores. it says yale should receive the test scores three weeks after your test date, but i took the october sats and it has been over four weeks. do you think its just delayed? i chose yale as one of the four free schools to send sats to

Phew. I finally sent in my app, and it feels great. SAT 2200, which isn’t great, but I’ve got great ECs, including being on the Indian National Debate Team and participating in the World Schools Debating Championships twice, at Doha, Qatar and Dundee, Scotland. Hopefully, that’ll be enough, but good luck to everybody else as well!
