My safeties were American, Wellesley, Sarah Lawrence, and Colorado College (admitted to all but American bc they haven’t released decisions yet). If I don’t get into Yale or other ivies I will most likely be attending Pomona or Williams in the fall
@Potatofudge1123 - sorry for that interview experience. Things happen sometimes. Interviewers are regular folk with jobs, families and emergencies like everyone else. I am sure the intent was not to make you feel that way. On a better note, I have been able to write very extensive reports based upon very short interviews. Yale interviews are not usually a routine question and answer session - which is what you probably prepared for. A seasoned interviewer can get the impression they need from a couple of well answered questions or just a conversation. I have had interviews where I actually asked none of my usual questions and I thought the applicant was stellar. It will be fine. Good luck.
Yale AdComs will be making decisions up to the very last minute. There are, of course, applicants that are already “in”. But there is still discussions being had about other applicants. Your regional person may be lobbying for a particular student, there may be something about a student’s essay that leads to an extended discussion, or there may be something about an applicant that has them in the “let’s take another look” pile. It is only March 19, lots of time for applications to be read. Go on some of the social media sites and you will actually see AdComs talking about the process and how they stay up late into the night, up to the very end, reviewing apps. They take their responsibility very seriously. That is why Yale rarely makes mistakes in admissions and has a 98% retention rate.
@realityhitshard thank you! maybe you are right and they are considering me, since I got a likely letter and scholar nomination from another Ivy school and several early writes from good LACs. It’s just that I am an international applicant with stem interests asking for fin aid, and adcoms surely have plenty of such applicants, so why bother discuss if they are not sure they like me.
@Tperry1982 thank you, that’s a helpful insight!
@Tperry1982 Thank you so much! That really makes me feel so much better.
Got an email from admissions asking if I have any AP test scores “even though they’re not required”. I didn’t study for them at all! and got all 2’s !..so of course I didn’t report them. I wrote back and explained a personal circumstance as to why I did not prioritize time to study for AP tests and then listed my embarrassing scores. I am very fearful this will hurt my chances.
Any thoughts?
I don’t think it’ll hurt your chances too much since you have a good reason for the unsatisfactory scores.
Can anyone log into this page (which I believe is the admitted students page, although I could be wrong): https://apps.admissions.yale.edu/account/login?r=https%3a%2f%2fapps.admissions.yale.edu%2fportal%2fadmits
I applied for the class of 2021. It’s my first choice by acceptance is def a long shot. My stats are barely comparable to the stats posted in this thread :’(
Wow! so impressed with your stats! what kind of debate do you do? and if you dont mind me asking, were you accepted ED?
@Harvardgirl21 i tried logging in and it said it was for admitted students only
Lol what if they reject us because we tried to login oops.
Can someone who got a likely letter please try to login to that portal?
^ Yes please.
I love Yale so much guys! I’ve just been a little bit stressed about my application because I did something a little risky. Do you think it was a bad idea? I wrote my Why Yale essay as a conversation between a personified female version of Yale and me.
She was laying next to me in bed asking questions like “Am I pretty?” then I answered why I loved her by pretty much extolling her and explaining why we’re perfect for each other… I know, hella weird. But it seemed entirely sane at the time.
Yale called my school about a scholarship a few weeks back. What do you suppose that means?
@Harvardgirl21 that same link was used for the Pomona thread, and people who were accepted saw their acceptance ahead of time if I remember correctly (this was discovered on the day of the decision was supposed to come out for Pomona) I’m pretty sure they haven’t uploaded RD decisions on the portal this early two weeks before decisions come out. It says only for admitted students for me at least.
Does Yale put the decision on the portal as it is made (even though we can’t see it), or only on March 30th?
@Theoddorre I’m pretty sure they upload ALL the decisions maybe on the actual admission day, seeing as how many decisions are still being made last minute.
@Afrikal It’s easier said than done, but try not to stress at this point. I totally do all the time, though haha. I don’t know if my essays were okay and I keep on stressing about them. I wrote the “something you love to do” essay about my love of learning strange words in all languages. The topic is pretty cool, I guess, but it was barely coherent lol. Oh well, we’ll see what happens soon…
Your essay seems really interesting but also strange! They probably never saw an essay like that before which may work in your favor. Mine was super generic.
Argh, I think the wait is getting to all of us.
