Hi there, I am new to CC and I am a mom of senior trying to applying to Yale. The Optional Engineering and Computer Science Essay prompt doesn’t seem to appear anywhere in the Yale Common App questions or supplement, yet the following prompt is on the Yale essay topics website. Does anyone know whether this should be an upload through SlideRoom instead, uploaded elsewhere, perhaps on the applicant status portal, or mailed to the college?

If you selected one of the computer science or engineering majors, please tell us more about what has led you to an interest in this field of study, what experiences (if any) you have had in computer science or engineering, and what it is about Yale’s program in this area that appeals to you. (Please answer in 500 words or fewer.)

If your son indicates an Engineering or Comp Sci major as his number 1 Academic Interest in that section of the Common App for Yale, the supplemental engineering/comp sci prompt will pop up at the end of the Additional Questions section.

@Benji3025 When do acceptance packets come ib, and what’s inside?
For SCEA acceptees, the acceptance packets came about a week ago. There’s an acceptance letter and financial aid decision (basically copies of what’s on the accepted student portal) as well as some information about Yale and New Haven, and a Yale pennant!
So if computer science or engineering is not my top choice, I won’t have to submit the additional essay? The question doesn’t pop anywhere for me. Thanks!
Nope, you won’t have to submit the additional essay if either CS or engineering is not your top choice @Hopeful2022

@Hopeful2022 No, I don’t think it will hurt your chances because it wouldn’t make sense to complete it if you’re not interested in it

Okay, so I just sent my scores to Yale on Saturday with the “rush ship” option but I noticed that the document deadline is the 2nd. I’m really concerned they’re gonna trash the app because the official reports aren’t in, despite me self reporting my scores. What do you guys think?

@IvyDreamfor2022 I really don’t think that’ll happen. They know that sometimes things take a while to process, so they will evaluate things as they come in.
