Yale 2023 Applicants Discussion

good luck everyone, we will all be fine no matter the outcome

@yungturd where in Texas do you live?

been following this thread for a while now. what @yungturd said is so true; everyone is really supportive and it is refreshing. Itā€™s also comforting to see everyone else feeling the same way. its also kind of nice to put emotions and qualities with a group of people/ā€œapplicantsā€ who we can be so accustomed to thinking about as our competition. It kind of helps put everything in perspective. I really canā€™t believe the week is here!!

Good Luck everyone! I know that we all are feeling the pressure because family and friends pressuring us to get in, but just remember to relax and take it easy no matter what happens!

Do you guys know if itā€™s easier/harder/no difference for CT kids to get in? Iā€™ve heard/read various things and figure that it shouldnā€™t make a difference, but not totally sure

@redflamingo iā€™ve heard both that itā€™s slightly more difficult, since they want more students from ā€˜exoticā€™ places like Iowa or Italy, but Iā€™ve also heard that they are more familiar with CT and its towns/high schools and that can have a positive impact? I think it wouldnā€™t make that big of a difference though

@benanderson1001 Great ECā€™s! I think you have a chance because your ACT is within the range, just your GPA which is a little low but your ECā€™s are great, esp national history, they like that! Good Luck!

Letā€™s distract ourselves!

What other schools did you apply to (and what major/career pathway, if you have a general idea), and why? Donā€™t give your stats or ask for a Chance Me or anything, this is just to get a good idea about what other schools everyone is applying to.

Iā€™ll go:
Iā€™m applying to some in-state safeties, UW, U Oregon, CMC, Pitzer, UNC, Dartmouth, Wesleyan, Reed, and Wake Forest. I plan to study molecular biology as a premed student!
Iā€™m applying to these schools because they either have great financial aid, good biology programs, good ā€œcommunity vibes,ā€ are on the West or East Coast, or a combination of these factors:).

Iā€™m aiming for BME or ChemE, and potentially premed as well @seagreensoul! My list changes way too often but my other tops are MIT, UChicago, UCs, Dartmouth, USC, and Harvard. Also doing some in-state safeties! I liked all these schools as they all have great research options and financial aid. Also really liked the collaborative vibes I got when I visited these campuses

@redflamingo Those are some great schools! The collaborative vibes are really what make a school stand out. As you can tell from my list, Iā€™m just really shooting for the moon with Yale, but Iā€™m already getting excited about my other schools and wouldnā€™t be too bummed if I donā€™t get in to Yale. I wish you the best of luck with the rest of your college apps!

^^Best of luck to you too! Trying to motivate myself and get excited about other great schools so that when rejection/deferral comes on Friday, I wonā€™t be too disappointed lol

same @redflamingo. except the only thing is, even if i am excited about other schools i know that the rejection/deferral itself is going to be devastating :frowning:

Good luck to everyone! 'Tis gonna be a tedious week. Every day that goes by, my friends are hearing back from other schools and putting my nerves on edge lol.

Wait did Cornell come out??

@Cherax yes!

I am in need of some serious advice ā€“ how are you guys keeping the nerves away & keeping yourselves busy over these next few days? The past week has been increasingly challenging for me as Friday approaches, and every day I find myself nauseous, lightheaded, and generally absurdly anxious. I canā€™t focus on anything and I am really having a time!!! It doesnā€™t help that 3 other kids in my grade of 120 also applied SCEA. The days have never ever passed by so slowly, and Iā€™m not sure how to make it go any quicker. Help!!!

Start applying to other colleges : ))

Guys, does having your financial aid (fafsa/css) in late affect their SCEA decision making?

^ No. Nor does it reduce your aid award. The earlier deadline just allows you to receive an initial award decision with the SCEA decision:

"Deadlines
In order to receive a provisional financial aid decision with your admissions decision, you must submit all of the listed application materials according to the following deadlines:

QuestBridge: Extended to Monday, November 5, 2018
Early Action: November 9, 2018
Regular Decision: March 1, 2019

If you miss the deadline, your provisional award information may arrive after your admissions decision. However, you are still eligible to apply for financial aid, and your award will not be reduced because of late submission. Please submit all documents as soon as possible; the more quickly you complete your file, the sooner you will receive your provisional financial aid decision."

@Cherax Iā€™ve been applying to my other colleges. More importantly, Iā€™ve been focusing on my in-state safeties, as I will most likely be attending one of them because of merit scholarships. Iā€™ve been researching programs, clubs, and classes that interest me, in addition to honors colleges and unique resources that they would have. Just try to keep an open mind about your other schools, learn about them, and think ā€œHey, College X would actually be a great option because of their honors college, merit scholarships, strong programs, etc.!ā€ Good luck with your Yale admissions decision and the rest of your college applications!

Iā€™ve conditioned myself to expect a rejection, so Iā€™m either gonna be meeting my expectations or exceeding them. I find it pretty annoying when even people who know about the college app process say things like ā€˜youā€™re sure to get inā€™ just because the applicant happens to be a smart kid. Statistically speaking, weā€™re all almost sure to NOT get in, lol.
All that being said, I canā€™t help but feel excited for the decision, especially as the day draws closer. I certainly think this thread is very nice and supportive, especially seeing that at this very instant they could be comparing some of us to each other.

All the best to everyone, and know that even if we donā€™t get in there are other colleges that will be happy to have us, and weā€™re gonna have a great college experience as long as we take efforts, wherever we end up.
