Yale 2024 Applicants Discussion

So I applied to Yale thru QuestBridge and since QB doesn’t accept resumes on their application, is that a setback considering my resume outlines all my extracurriculars and awards and research projects that I’ve conducted outside of school and my skills and basically everything about me not reflected in my transcript and subpar (1450 SAT, 33 ACT) test scores? I put the most important activities on the application and my personal essays and short responses were really good. I feel like I have a good shot at being a Finalist, I just don’t know about getting into Yale. But I also ranked 5 other schools anyways, so idk.

i had a lot of the fun with supps, honestly; i really liked the short answers, and i do like writing a lot so the essays honestly haven’t been the worst part of this whole process—really, it’s the waiting. i’ve braced myself for deferral or worse already, so my prospective ed2 schools are claremont mckenna college or tufts. good luck to everyone applying!

hey! i submitted this thursday. i’m ready to not get in!!!

supplement procrastination gang wya?

@beautifulchaos LOL HERE! Well more like I’m procrastinating on trimming. I’ve written certain essays for Yale that I love too much to cut down but I will eventually. I have a break coming up so might as well use that to trim and finish other essays xD

From my understanding, I can submit my application before my recommenders have submitted their required documents. Is that correct?

Correct.

Applying to colleges is stressful for sure…but remember if you are looking to get in to a top 1% college there are 3,500 colleges in the US. Therefore the top 1% is 35 schools not 4 or 5 or 8 – 35 !

Not applying SCEA, but good luck to everyone who is and congratulations to everyone who has submitted their application!

Have a nice day.

Hey, Dude!! I am from India. I have also applied in Yale in REA. I am really scared about the decision. Although, it would come on 15th Dec . I am already in fear.
Share your opinions and advices …lol

Submitting mine next week. Srsly not expecting to get in, but it’s worth a shot!

To anyone who can help:
I submitted my SCEA about a week ago, and everything was marked as submitted in the Yale portal except my official transcript, which was marked as awaiting. I thought that maybe transcripts took a little longer to transfer and waited a week until now. The transcript is still marked as “awaiting”. Is anyone else having this issue, and is it normal? Or should I contact either my school or Yale?

Thanks.

@dreammedix --I would contact your HS college advisor and check on the status of your transcript. My student’s transcript was submitted Wed. of last week and showed as received in the portal by Friday. It should not take that long to show up. Our school submitted it electronically.

Does Yale normally grant extensions for recommendation letters? I am applying for SCEA and my counselor still has not submitted the counselor recommendation letter yet. I have already contacted him with a polite reminder multiple times, and the letter is still not complete. Should I call the admissions office and ask for an extension on the recommendation letter? All the other components of my application were submitted and received a few weeks ago.

stem yale major: are any of ya’ll submitting an abstract or research paper with your application?

Yes, just call the admissions office. Should be fine, as long as it doesn’t get there super late.

Submitting either today or tomorrow!! Big nerves

If you are proud of your work, submit an abstract, not the full paper. Admissions officers are not expert in the field your paper is written on, and - more importantly - don’t have the time to read a full research paper!

If - and that is a big IF - the rest of your application is of sufficient merit to warrant further consideration, they will forward your abstract to a faculty expert in the field, and if the Prof who reads the abstract is impressed, they will let the admissions officer know.

You may then receive a request for the full paper (which would then be reviewed by the faculty member) and/or a supplemental recommendation from you research mentor.

^Son’s experience when applying. Yale '19 grad.

Submitted my app! Good luck to everyone–we got this. Be it Yale or another school, hopefully we’ll all end up where we’re meant to be

@beautifulchaos Congrats! Just barely made the Early Action deadline lol. Best of luck
