Yale Additional Essay

The Yale Additional Essay is supposed to be 500 words (max) or less. If mine is only 300, do you think Yale will look upon it poorly?

I feel like it delivers everything I want it to. I don't want to have filler in there just to get to 500 words.

Thanks,
Owlehn

I’m sure it’s fine.

Can I have those 200 extra words?

Thanks, silverturtle.

Lol, I’ll think about it. Only if you pay a hefty fee.

300 should be fine–certainly don’t add fluff to make it closer to 500.

Compared to other schools, Yale seems to be even more particular about word limits. They love concise writing. If your essay delivers what you want it to, then it’s even better in 300 words.

They love concise writing - they say so a handful of times on their website.

Do you think they’ll be upset if its a little over? Like, 517 words, for example?

To the OP- Don’t add unnecessary stuff. They’ll probably be ecstatic to see a short essay!

^I also think they won’t mind 17 words extra. It’s nothing to worry about.

I doubt they’ll be able to tell if you go 17 words over.

^ Agreed. I doubt they literally check the word count for your essays, but if it’s obvious that it’s over… But yeah, you should be fine, as long as it holds the reader’s attention.

Thanks, guys! I kept it at 300 words.
Hopefully they’ll like the length.
fingers crossed

Mine was 500 words exactly, but I know my friend who got in last year had a 800 word one. LOL.
