"The Yale Admissions Office website, launched last fall, is the most recent in a string of University sites undergoing redesigns to define Yales online image." Which image is that?

as a current yale student, I have to say that yale does a terrible job of maintaining its online presence in general. these recent upgrades to the college site and the admissions site are welcome breaths of fresh air in a sea of bad looking webpages and outdated layouts. just take a look at the homepage and compare it to the homepages of other schools in the ivy league - there’s definitely something lacking in terms of vibrant graphics, new focus, web 2.0 look, etc. there’s one thing to be “traditional” in appearance and another to just simply be backward. facelifts are definitely needed

This is about the main page not the admissions page but…
September 2006 – [Yale University](Yale University)
Today – [Yale University](http://yale.edu/)

LOL honestly, that’s pretty pathetic. ^^ C’mon Yale!

My friend helped design this version of Brown’s site. [Brown University](http://web.archive.org/web/20060831033421/http://www.brown.edu/)

They no longer use it though.

Why is this news?

I think the new [University of Chicago](https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/) site looks great :)

Nothing could ever be more pathetic than the “That’s Why I Chose Yale” video. Any effort to update their image needs to start there.

If it ain’t broken…

At least aesthetically, this site is quite nice.

I agree, Yale’s homepage is definitely one of the better ones IMO.

For comparison, here’s what Harvard’s site looked like in July 2008:
[Welcome to Harvard University](http://web.archive.org/web/20080731130707/http://www.harvard.edu/)

Ouch!

LOL baby vomit green, great

Simplicity is best. You can’t find anything on some colleges’ websites.

I concur with whoever mentioned UChicago’s new website; it looks great and it’s very informative! The only issue I have with it is that in some cases it has, say, two different pages on the same subject that contain different information, and you need to find both to get all the info you need. But this is a common problem with websites that are overloaded with content, like most college sites. I’ve certainly seen much worse.

Vassar’s website is a good one, and Tufts’s looks great.

As for Yale’s main page… lol. Columbia’s also looks slightly outdated, but I think that’s mostly down to the color scheme. Deep blue can make any website look old.

the yale admissions site is very nice in my opinion. i don’t understand why they can’t put that theme onto the regular Yale website

“”“Simplicity is best. You can’t find anything on some colleges’ websites.”“”

(I really need to learn how to quote…)

Anyway, see here.

[xkcd: University Website](xkcd: University Website)

Harvard’s new website is pretty good aesthetically (so much better than that green, wow). So is University of Chicago, to the person who linked to it. Yale really needs to update its homepage, when I looked at it I got a throwback to 1999.
Personally, I think MIT’s website is the best of the lot. Polished, organized, aesthetically pleasing, constantly updated. When I was applying to colleges, MIT was the only website I didn’t get frustrated at. Others really have instructions & requirements and everything useful buried under pages and pages of redundant prologues.

better than it was back in the day
[YALE UNIVERSITY FRONT DOOR](YALE UNIVERSITY FRONT DOOR)

That’s not saying much. Everyone’s websites were ugly back in the day. I just hope the Yale web team knows that the front page is in dire need of an upgrade
