Yale Application Deadline (Time Zone?)

Hi everyone, :)

What time on January 1 is the Yale application deadline?

Let us say, just for example, that it is 11:59pm. Would this be 11:59pm according to New Haven time (EST), or according to whatever time zone the applicant is in? (Surprisingly, Columbia actually goes by the applicant's time zone!)

I'm asking this because I'm an international applicant from Australia, so the extra time makes a significant difference. (11:59pm New Haven time is 3:59pm the next day in Australia)

Thanks in advance! I would really appreciate if anyone could help me out. :)

From common application:

All application deadlines are as of 11:59pm on the stated deadline day. The Common Application records all dates (deadlines, form submission dates, payment dates) in Eastern Time.

Tip: To be safe, don’t cut it that close. The common app has crashed in the past on the evening January 1st because of the sheer amount of people rushing to apply at the same time.

Thanks CaliCash. :)

Does anyone else have any ideas?

There’s only one answer to this question lol.

@jencee, you’re applying to many schools. Instead of worrying about time zone effects on deadlines for the different schools, just get the applications done. Well before the deadlines.

@CaliCash gave you the right answer. I’m curious, and please answer this after the deadlines if you’re strapped for time, but what other ideas were you expecting after thanking CaliCash?

@IxnayBob Well, I appreciate CaliCash’s input, but the answer that CaliCash gave quoted the Common Application. However, Columbia also uses the Common App, but Columbia states that applicants must submit by the deadline according to their own time zone, which contradicts what the Common App website states. So I wasn’t sure whether the information from the Common App would apply to Yale or not.

But, I’m going to take your advice and focus on finishing applications now, instead of thinking about this.

If the calendar is your friend, the clock can’t be your enemy. Submit several days early!
