Yale Architecture SCEA

Does anybody know how good Yale's undergraduate architecture program is? How does it compare to Cornell, Penn and other architecture programs?

Also, Yale students don't seem to be able to declare architecture as a major until their second year in college. How do I show that's my intended major?

Sorry if my questions are elementary. I've yet to conduct sufficient research =(

I was wondering the same thing. I've done a little research and found that you are correct, as Yale students cannot declare a major before their sophmore second semester. (I think.) Remember, too, that undergraduate architecture at Yale is only a BA, so if you wanted to become a licensed, practicing architect, you would have to go to grad school to get an M.Arch degree. Yale's graduate program in Architecture (M.Arch I and II) is arguably the best in the world... but some schools are notorious for not admitting their own undergrads into their grad schools. However, I do not know if this applies to Yale. A look at the SOA's website indicated that there were about 3-4 Yale students admitted into the graduate program in the last couple of years. (For every year, I mean.)

I have looked up this topic before, so this may help: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=341855&highlight=yale+architecture

Good luck! (We're gonna need it!)

well cornell's undergraduate architecture program is ranked #1 in the country by usnews. but remember, cornell has a college of art, architecture, and planning, whereas (and correct me if i'm wrong) i believe yale's program is within the college of art and sciences.

All of Yale's undergraduate programs are in Yale College including Architecture. However most of the professors in the Yale undergraduate Architecture program are professors in the School of Architecture teaching in the graduate program also.

Corbusi8 is correct that the Yale undergraduate program leads to a BA and not a BArch. The program is very competitive admitting only 25 or so students a year.

My daughter is starting her junior year and was just accepted into the official Architecture major. A student can't "declare" Architecture as their major; they need to take pre-requisite classes and apply for one of the openings.

Best architecture program in the country.
