I feel the way Yale handled things is unforgivable. How about innocent until proven guilty? Especially in a case where based on the few facts that are known, the chance that the girl is lying is rather high. This is another misstep for Yale. Also what i find disgusting is that so many of the super liberal campus groups at Yale didn’t hesitate to applaud the decision and call the guy a rapist without knowing the facts. You are at Yale because you are smart. Use your brain to think critically rather than become a sheep to the politically correct mass hysteria that plagues elite schools, and it seems especially Yale, nowadays.

This has the potential to be as emotionally charged as the Duke lacrosse scandal.

@NerdyChica Brodhead, the current president of Duke, who really botched the handling of the Duke scandal, was a Yale professor and dean before going to Duke. I just wonder if he learned his ingenious way to respond to such incidents at Yale…

@penn95, Yale obviously owes the student due process–probably a hearing and appeal–and I’m sure, given the prominence of this case, that they followed the process scrupulously. No student is entitled to have the school wait out whether there is a criminal charge and whether they are found guilty or not. Certain conduct that may not amount to a crime can still be grounds for expulsion. Students may want to remember that.

As for making the case public, you can blame the student’s father for that. He’s the one who went to the press and told them that his son was kicked out and for what reason.

The reason he was expelled was because more women brought charges against him. Wait and see what happens…Yale doesn’t just expelled someone 3 months before graduation for nothing

There’s a lengthy thread about this on the Parents’ Forum.
