Yale Bedding "Value Paks"

I’m going to be an incoming freshman this fall and I just got some information in the mail about Yale’s Value Paks, which just sound like a money ploy to me.

The packet I got says that regular sheets won’t fit Yale’s “specially sized beds,” but aren’t Yale’s beds just twin XL? I’m not really interested in buying one of the Value Paks, but if twin XL sheets don’t fit then I’ll look into it.

Anyways, can someone please confirm that Yale’s beds are indeed twin XL and that I need not spend my money on one of the Value Paks. But if you think the Value Paks are worth it, let me know why.

Thanks!! Boola boola!

Recent discussion on the Yale Parents Thread (posts 5377 and following). General consensus is for the money, you’re better off doing BB&B or Amazon.

The bed’s aren’t special, they plain old Twin XL. Buy the sheets from anywhere.

As a mom I suggest you also get a memory foam mattress topper and deep pocket sheets. The mattresses are thin. You will thank me later.

@Memmsmom - Can you clarify what you mean by deep pocket sheets please? Is it using queen size sheet for twin XL?

@ragudba The sheet description will say “deep pockets” also you can use something that has elastic and clips to hold the corners on. Those they sell pretty much everywhere and may be easier to find than deep pocket sheets. You do not want to buy Queen sheets as they will be VERY WIDE. You just want the sheet to be taller than a normal dorm sheet.

I used a 2" thick memory foam XL mattress topper on my bed, and the twin XL sheet set (ordered from Amazon) fit fine over both the mattress and the topper.

^^ Ditto for my son. There is absolutely no need to purchase Yale’s “Value Pack” as it’s not much of a value, unless your kid is flying in from across the country or the globe and doesn’t have the time to shop Amazon prior to their arrival.
