YALE Biomedical Engineering

I read the 2008 or 2009 US News/ World Report rankings for Biomedical Engineering. Yale University is not on there at all. However, I have been told that Yale has an excellent Biomedical Engineering Department. I understand that Yale has a fairly new undergrad Biomedical Engineering Dept. and that this may be affecting the rankings. Has anyone had any experience with Yale BME?

Thanks!

I’m not a Yale student, and I don’t know much about the program, but I will say that Yale has generally been working extremely hard about changing it’s image as a place for the humanities to a place of science and engineering as well. It has never been “weak” in the sciences or engineering, but it doesn’t have that reputation.
As a side note, I suggest investigating Duke, they have an incredible Biomed Engineering program.

Or MIT, they are supposed to have a surperb BME program. What is the salary of a BME anyways?

Johns Hopkins has one of the best BME programs in the world (you actually have to apply specially to the program when you apply to JHU). That said, even though I am a possible BME major, I ended up choosing Yale over JHU. Yale will give you a fine biomedical engineering education, but with more room to explore other random courses. Do keep in mind that the program here is obviously smaller than at a place like MIT or JHU or Duke; that can be a good thing, but you should also look into what the professors here are researching to see if any of it interests you. I would guess that there is a wider variety of BME research at schools with larger programs.

Just to follow up, and of course this would all only matter if I get accepted, could anyone please tell me how the biomolecular engineering research area is in Yale’s chemical engineering department? And maybe tie that back to its biomedical engineering department?
